Strategy[]

Zhurong's technologies benefit the player's Farms and myth units. Slash and Burn greatly reduces the build cost of Farms and increases the rate at which worker units gather from them, providing a larger, steadier supply of food throughout the rest of the game. Southern Fire also makes Fire Archers stronger, giving them the ability to inflict burning damage on both enemy units and buildings. This is especially deadly against infantry units, one of the Fire Archers' main targets. Flaming Blood grants all of the player's myth units the ability to deal additional damage to nearby enemy units.

He provides a flying myth unit, the Zhuque. While slow to attack and only being able to receive attacks from ranged units, it deals massive damage to both units and buildings alike with its fire tornadoes, which also knock away enemy units. It can also shield itself and nearby allied units with a fiery shield that boosts armor values, allowing them to last longer in battle. Lastly, Song of Midsummer boosts the Zhuque's hit points and allows it to land on the ground to rapidly heal itself.

Zhurong provides Blazing Prairie, a strong offensive god power that rains down fireballs from the sky to greatly damage all enemy units and buildings in the target area. When combined with Nüba's Drought, it can easily devastate an enemy base, even destroying a Town Center in the process. Aging up with both Houtu and Zhurong also permits both Nüwa and Shennong to use a one-two god power combination of Earth Wall and Blazing Prairie, encircling enemies before raining fire from above. This can be used defensively against enemy raids with potential offensive applications.

Shennong players can benefit from Zhurong's technologies in a variety of ways. Slash and Burn makes Shennong's already strong farming focus even more potent, while Flaming Blood can be combined with Shennong's Gift of Beasts Blessing and Peach of Immortality technology, as well as Rock Solid (granted by Nüba), to field a large army of well-armored, powered-up myth units that can regenerate when on Shennong's Favored Land.

For Shennong players, choosing Chiyou in the Classical Age, Nüba in Heroic, and Zhurong in Mythic will strengthen Shennong's myth units, which are more readily accessible to him due to his bonus, making the Yazi, Taotie, and Zhuque indomitable in strength. Additionally, Nüba's Scorching Feathers technology combines nicely with Zhurong's Southern Fire, making Fire Archers more effective, especially against human soldiers.

Mythology[]

Zhurong is the god of fire and the south, renowned for riding two dragons.

In mythology, Zhurong is best known for his role in the tale of Nüwa mending the heavens. In this story, Zhurong defeated Gonggong, the water god. Enraged, Gonggong smashed his head against Buzhou Mountain, one of the pillars supporting the sky. This act caused the sky to collapse and floods to sweep across the land. To restore order, Nüwa repaired the heavens using five-colored stones and the four legs of a giant turtle.
