—Warning Sigismund about Jan Zizka in The Emperor's Fury |
Zawisza the Black is a cavalry hero found in the Scenario Editor in Age of Empires II HD: The African Kingdoms. He is based on Zawisza Czarny, a Polish knight and nobleman who is a folk hero in Poland as a result of his knightly virtues.
In-game, he is represented by a Hussar, and does share some properties like attack bonus, speed, Rate of Fire, and base Line of Sight with the Hussar. However, unlike the Hussar, he does not get a Line of Sight boost with Age ups, which means that practically he has the Line of Sight of a Knight. His armor is very similar to the Sogdian Cataphract, and he possesses a very high attack and hit points.
Like other cavalry, Zawisza the Black is affected by all technologies that affect cavalry as well as any other bonuses that affect them. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health.
Originally, he used the icon of a hero Hussar (and by extension, the icon of the regular Hussar before the Definitive Edition). With Dawn of the Dukes, he gets his own icon.
Trivia[]
- He appears as an AI player, but not as his own unit, in the scenarios Courage and Coin and The Emperor's Fury.
- He only speaks in rhymes:
- "Far too long have I rested in the shade. Now is the hour to draw my dread blade!" - His battle cry in Courage and Coin.
- "Zizka, old comrade, how do you do? I fear that my obuchs have a date with you!" - Upon sending his troops after the player in The Emperor's Fury.
- "Killing my brave crusaders will do you no good; God deals out graver vengeance than you ever could!" - When those troops are killed.
- "Piercing the air is the cawing of the crow; before long, your scarlet blood will stain the snow!" - When the player's troops reach his Castles in the same scenario.
- "If my tall fortress indeed is to fall, it will be ransom for which I soon call!" - When the aforementioned Castles are razed.
