“ | Ships 4 Young Guards (powerful Grenadiers) and enables Grenadier training in the Artillery Foundry. | ” |
—In-game description |
Young Guard is a technology in Age of Empires III that is unique to the French and can be researched at the Church once the Edict of Nantes Home City Card has been sent. Once researched, 4 Young Guards will appear in the Home City shipment point, allows Grenadiers to be trained at Barracks, Artillery Foundries, Forts, and Galleons, Grenadier unit upgrades to be researched at both Barracks and Artillery Foundries, and Artillery Foundries to be built in the Commerce Age.
Young Guard, along with its further upgrades Middle Guard and Old Guard, is the only way for the French to acquire Grenadiers. Researching Guard technologies will automatically research the Incendiary Grenades technology and grant "Grenade Launchers" Home City Card effects, which is no longer available to the French.
Young Guards are consulate units, start with +10% hit points and attack, and are automatically upgraded in every Age up starting from the Fortress Age.
