Fast myth unit that can teleport to enemies. Good against human soldiers.
—In-game description

The Yazi (traditional Chinese: 睚眥; simplified Chinese: 睚眦) is a myth unit in Age of Mythology: Retold - Immortal Pillars available to the Chinese at the Temple if they Age up to the Classical Age with Chiyou. According to some classical scholars, it is one of the nine sons of the dragon from Chinese mythology. The Yazi is an agile and fast myth unit.

Special ability[]

  • Flash Strike (Charged): Instantly teleports to the targeted location, inflicting damage to any enemies. (Teleports to target enemy in a range of 15 and deals them 15 Hack Attack hack damage with the same multipliers, recharge time: 20 seconds)

Strategy[]

Yazis are fast-moving, fairly cheap myth units with high pierce armor and a powerful special ability that allows them to strike first, analogous to the Egyptian Anubite. Their Flash Strike special ability allows them to teleport to the targeted location, instantly dealing high hack damage to the enemy unit they come in contact with. This is also useful for a variety of purposes besides being able to strike first. Yazis can teleport to harass enemy villagers, dealing some damage and disrupting an enemy's economy early on. However, Citizens and Kuafus, especially their hero variants, are more likely to survive a single hit from Flash Strike. Yazis can also use their Flash Strike ability to quickly retreat to safety where they can be healed by a Sage. Lastly, the Flash Strike ability can bypass obstructions, such as walls, which can prove dangerous against players using the Turtle strategy.

Chiyou provides two upgrades to the Yazi, both of which boost its hit points by 15%: Son of Loong, which adds 40 more points of damage to the Flash Strike ability; and Rage of Slaughter, which adds a 50% lifesteal passive effect when fighting enemy units, as well as a temporary 80% boost to lifesteal for 10 seconds upon killing any enemy unit. These upgrades make Yazi all the deadlier, especially when paired with Shennong's myth unit bonuses and upgrades.

Yazis can also take out tougher myth units when in groups, especially slow-moving ones like the Rock Giant, Colossus, and Hundun. However, as with all myth units, they are weak against heroes, although their speed and Flash Strike ability allow them to outrun most threats before they become too problematic.

Mythology[]

Scientific name: Draco vindictus sinensis
Size: 450 lbs, 17' long
Diet: Carnivorous

Yazi is a mythical creature with a body that combines features of a wolf, leopard, and dragon. It holds a sharp blade in its mouth and is often depicted with a fierce, angry glare, creating a terrifying image.

In Chinese folk legends, Yazi symbolizes a vengeful nature and a readiness to repay any slight. It also serves as a protective talisman against evil. Because of these attributes, Yazi is widely used in the decoration of weapons and buildings as a guardian beast to ward off evil spirits.
