Tactics[]
Yari Spearmen are Classical Age infantry units that specialize in taking out enemy cavalry, much like the Hirdman, Katapeltes, and Ge Halberdier. As such, they are effective in stopping early cavalry raids or taking out any unsuspecting Kataskopoi that happen to venture within the vicinity of the player's base. In groups, Yari Spearmen can even take down War Elephants. While decent against most siege weapons, they are weak against everything else, especially ranged soldiers. Counter-infantry units like the Hypaspist and Axeman will also destroy them with ease.
Amaterasu players who Age up to the Classical Age with Ame-no-Uzume, follow up with Raijin in the Heroic Age, and finally finish up with Takemikazuchi for the Mythic Age, will be able to field armies of stronger Yari Spearmen, with much higher hit points, faster movement and attack speeds, more damage against buildings, the ability to regenerate hit points while fighting enemy units, and lastly, the ability to grant Bushidล XP upon death. Alternatively, ลkuninushi's Divine Prefecture technology allows Yari Spearmen to be trained much faster, especially when combined with the Levy and Conscript Guardhouse Soldiers upgrades.
History[]
| โ | The yari is a distinctive Japanese spear primarily used by infantry soldiers, though it was occasionally carried by cavalry as well. Its length varied depending on the individual clan, each of which had specific preferences โ some yari measured over eight feet long. The spearhead was typically made of steel and featured a triangular cross-section near the base with a long, sharp point. The yari was never thrown in battle; it was used exclusively for hand-to-hand combat. A few legendary warriors are remembered for their exceptional skill with the yari, including Watanabe Hanzล, known as "Hanzล of the Yari," and Fukube Koheita, who killed Imagawa Yoshimoto with a yari in 1560 CE. |
