—In-game description
The Wooden Gate (named simply Gate before Retold) is a defensive structure in Age of Mythology. Its purpose is to allow friendly units to pass through walls while keeping enemies out. Unlike in Age of Empires II where the Gate is built as a separate structure, walls are simply clicked on and the button selected to become a Gate, for a cost. Units cannot pass through an enemy Gate, even if it is open.
The building is called Wooden Gate and has 90% pierce armor.
Hades: Wooden Gates no longer have +25% hit points.
History[]
“
Gates were provided in walls to allow access to fortifications. Because Gates could be the most vulnerable part of a defensive position, extra care was taken to make them strong. This might include a long and exposed approach to the gate itself and exposed passageways behind the gate leading to more gates.
