—Age of Empires IV description |
The Wooden Fortress is the unique Outpost of the Rus in Age of Empires IV. The Wooden Fortress is a sturdy wooden stronghold with an extensive Line of Sight and can be used as a garrison in case of attack.
Unlike the Town Center and the Keep, the Wooden Fortress cannot attack by default. Garrisoning Villagers and foot soldiers, or researching emplacements, adds projectiles.
Abilities and influences[]
- Wooden Fortress Influence (Passive): The Wooden Fortress generates an 8 x 8 tile influence area. Lumber Camps and Town Centers within the influence of a Wooden Fortress return +20% wood and extend the influence area by 1 tile around their footprint.

While Wooden Fortresses and Outposts are supposed to fill the same role, the former is pretty expensive, but has its benefits.
In addition to doing everything generic Outposts can do, Wooden Fortresses can also provide an influence to boost wood collection.
Available technologies[]
Generic emplacements[]
Wooden Fortresses can have both the Arrowslits and Springald Emplacement researched, unlike Outposts which can only research one weapon emplacement. Wooden Fortresses do not have Cannon Emplacement or Fortify Outpost emplacements.
