William the Conqueror is a hero unit in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors, and a leader in Age of Empires IV.
Age of Empires II[]
William the Conqueror is a cavalry hero featured in the Hastings scenario and the Scenario Editor in Age of Empires II: The Conquerors. He is controlled by player A in the co-op mode.
In-game, William is represented by a Frankish Paladin with better stats. Like other cavalry, William the Conqueror is affected by all technologies that affect cavalry as well as any other bonuses that affect them. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health.
Campaign appearances[]
Hastings: William the Conqueror leads the Normans to England, attempting to seize the English crown from Harald the Saxon.
- Courage and Coin: Kuno von Lichtenstein is a renamed William the Conqueror. He leads the Teutonic Order's western base. Killing him and the other Teutonic Commanders will break the Teutons' morale.

King William (named Duke William in the first scenario) is the first protagonist of the The Normans campaign in Age of Empires IV, and is represented by a knight with a lance. His special ability boosts the attack speed of nearby friendly units for a short duration. He is present in the scenarios The Battle of Hastings and North to York.

Attack speed (Active): Rallies nearby allies to increase ranged attack speed and melee attack damage for 15 seconds.
History[]
William the Conqueror is the first Norman King of England who is a descendant from Rollo but is best known for the successful Norman conquest of England. This invasion was the last time the British Isles was conquered and ruled by a foreign kingdom or country. He is also known as William the Bastard and Duke William of Normandy.
Trivia[]
- William wearing a sallet and being depicted as a plate-armored Frankish Paladin is anachronistic, as these styles of armor were not common in Europe until the 15th century.
