Weight class is an attribute in Age of Mythology: Retold that determines how pushback effects interact with units. Each unit, except flying units, has an associated weight class parameter (defined in the weightclass
tags in the game's proto xml file). Units, god powers, and abilities with pushback effects can knock units into the air. They have a maximum weight class parameter (defined in the maxsizeclass
tags in the game's proto xml file for unit abilities) which determine which units they can affect. This can be in addition to other restrictions on which units are affected, for e.g., most myth unit abilities do not trigger or cause pushback to hero units, while god powers do.
Units also push other units. Friendly units can push other units irrespective of their weight classes (units pass under Titans rather than pushing them). But when trying to push enemy units, units can push only those enemy units which are 4 weight classes below them. When tasked to move, the unit will push ahead into the lower weight class units, dispersing them. If the difference is lesser than 4, then the unit cannot push them and instead tries to find a path around them. By using units of appropriate weight classes, players can attempt to body-block enemy units this way.
For example, War Elephants (weight class 9) can push through lines of most infantry (weight class 5) as the difference is not less than 4, while other cavalry units cannot do the same.
Weight class of units[]
Notes[]
- Objects like trees, Gold Mines, rocks, and standard Titans have weight class 255.
- Wall connector pieces, Berry Bushes, and greater Titans have weight class 251.
- Relics, herdable animals, and Serpents have weight class 0.
- With the exceptions of the Crocodile and Rhinoceros, all Animals of Set have the same weight class as their wild counterparts.
