This article is about the unit in Age of Empires II. For other uses, see War Chariot.

Shu unique Siege Cavalry with rapid-fire attack, but cannot attack at close range. Has long reload time. Can switch to a barrage mode that covers more area but is less accurate.
—In-game description

The War Chariot is the second unique unit of the Shu in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - The Three Kingdoms. It is a cavalry siege unit that replaces the Scorpion line and can be trained at the Siege Workshop once the Castle Age is reached. It has no Elite upgrade.

Ability[]

/ Change Fire Mode (toggle): Switches between Barrage mode and Focus Fire mode.
  • Barrage mode: Its projectiles are more numerous and have greater spread. Projectiles which hit other targets deal 100% damage.
  • Focus Fire mode: it fires fewer projectiles, all of which land on the target, and deal pass-through damage.

It fires its multiple projectiles one at a time, which means that the more projectiles it fires, the longer it will take to reload.

Tactics[]

The War Chariot is functionally a mounted Organ Gun-Scorpion hybrid, which can function like one of the units at a time, and switch to the other type.

Trivia[]

  • The presence of the war chariot is seen as anachronistic. While chariots were used during the Three Kingdoms period, the use of chariots were primarily limited to transportation and command posts, as chariot warfare was already phased out since the Warring States period in favor of shock and ranged cavalry. Additionally, chariot warfare wouldn't have been suitable for the more dense mountainous geography with river valleys in Yunnan and Sichuan where the Shu Han kingdom was based.
  • It looks the same in both modes, unlike the Ratha or Jian Swordsman.
