History[]

Societies across the vast African continent employed a diverse array of military unit types varying by culture, resources, and often most crucially, climate. While some biomes were inhospitable to horses, for example, mounts were indispensable in regions such as North Africa and the Sahara that were dominated by plains and deserts. Military forces established camps for quartering, organizing, and training new recruits in the fashion that best suited their region.
