The Wanyūdō's flame breath deals crush damage, making it proficient at destroying enemy buildings. The flames also deal additional divine damage over time, thus making the Wanyūdō decent against human units and other myth units. As it has high pierce armor, it is also relatively resistant to ranged attacks, further increasing its anti-building utility. Being a ranged unit, the Wanyūdō can also target flying units like the Qinglong, although this is not recommended due to the Wanyūdō's short range. The Condemned Soul upgrades Wanyūdōs to Infernal Wanyūdōs, making their flames deal more damage and leave behind a larger burn area.
Wanyūdōs become stronger in later Ages, especially when upgraded with Fūjin's Oni Mask technology that improves their hit points and reduces their training time. Given the Wanyūdō's low population cost, Oni Mask makes Wanyūdōs even easier to mass. However, as with all myth units, Wanyūdōs are destroyed by heroes, especially ranged ones as the majority of them can outrange Wanyūdōs. Wanyūdōs can, of course, be defeated with melee units as well due to their low hack armor. Fast melee myth units like Anubites and Kamaitachis are especially suitable due to their powerful special abilities, with the former being able to strike first and the latter being able to deal additional damage over time.
Initially, its favor cost was 16. With update 18.52475, this was reduced to 15.
Mythology[]
“
Scientific name – Ignivolvens daemonium Size – 600 lbs Diet – the legs of small children
The Wanyūdō is a hellish, unnatural being: it appears as a giant, flaming wheel with a man's head in the center, the spokes of the wheel piercing through his skull. As a servant of hell, the Wanyūdō roams Japan in search of wicked souls to drag back to the underworld, where they can atone for their sins.
Typically, a Wanyūdō is seen rolling through town along the road – villagers flee in terror, as simply being noticed by the creature can bring a terrible fate, regardless of one's innocence or guilt.

Trivia[]
Its name in Japanese literally translates to "wheel monk", although the second component (入道) can also be read as "bald-headed man" by extension. In legend, it is the tortured soul of an evil man who was trapped in a flaming ox-wheel as punishment for his wickedness, referenced in the Condemned Soul myth technology.
The Wanyūdō's in-game Latin scientific name translates to "fire-rolling demon".
