"Mercenaries are free."—In-game description
Wallenstein's Contracts is a technology in Age of Empires III that is unique to the Germans and can be researched at the Church once the Fortress Age is reached and the Treaty of Westphalia Home City Card has been sent. Once researched, it removes the coin cost from German Home City mercenary shipments except TEAM Hire Hessians and TEAM 10 Cree Allies.
Contrary to what the description states, Wallenstein's Contracts does not affect mercenaries' training cost; those trained in the Saloon still cost their usual amount of coin to be trained.
Wallenstein's Contracts allows a German player to liberally ship mercenary armies to overwhelm their opponents and saves them up to 7,900 coin.
