The Walking Woods (named Walking Tree before Retold) is a myth unit in Age of Mythology that is available solely to worshipers of Njord. More specifically, it is summoned when the player invokes Walking Woods on a forest of trees.
Up to eight trees can be transformed into Walking Trees that will attack any enemy units or buildings on sight. Unlike most other myth units, which have attack bonuses against human units and other myth units, Walking Trees have no attack bonuses.
Special ability[]
Nature's Eyes (Passive, requires Eyes in the Forest): Animals and natural objects within the unit's Line of Sight reveal their surroundings (30-tile radius) for 6 seconds.

Myth technologies[]
Eyes in the Forest (Loki): Animals and natural objects within its Line of Sight reveal a radius of 30 around them for 6 seconds. (since Retold)
Prior to patch 2.7, the player had no control over the affected trees, but shared their Line of Sight and they remain until killed. Walking Woods can be used both defensively or offensively. They can provide protection to friendly units in remote areas or can be used to supplement the player's own army. However, they do mediocre damage to units, and heroes kill them easily. It is best to invoke Walking Woods near enemy fortifications as they can destroy buildings easily due to the fact that they deal high crush damage.
The trees can also drag down the economy of an enemy by placing them in a forest used by lumberjacks. This will not only force workers to retreat but also deny the enemy up to 1,600 wood (or up to 2,000 wood if invoked on Gaia Trees). Invoking Walking Woods requires careful timing, as the trees are incredibly stupid if not micromanaged. They will favor attacking units over buildings despite their advantage and can easily be lured away from an enemy base with a single unit. Even if the trees kill said unit in the chase, they will not return to continue attacking the enemy, but rather remain idle until a new foe appears in their Line of Sight.
Houses that have been upgraded with Goumang's Vibrant Land technology will grow trees nearby, which can be converted with Walking Woods. If used on an enemy, the resultant Walking Woods can be commanded to destroy the Houses and reduce the enemy's wood supply. Likewise, if used on an ally, the trees can be used to defend their base from enemy raiders while their Houses will continue to grow new trees as long as they remain standing.
In the Arena of the Gods game mode, as well as in some Daily Celestial Challenges, Walking Woods can respawn 30 seconds after being killed if the World Twist "Horus' Ancestral Protection" is active. However, once they respawn, only the legged stumps will appear.
Types of Walking Woods[]
The type of Walking Woods created is dependent on the type of tree the god power is cast upon. The following Walking Woods with unique models can be created:
Before Retold, they also had unique names depending on the tree as listed above. In Retold, all of them are called Walking Woods. The re-release also introduced two new types of trees, Olives and Cypresses, which can be turned into Walking Woods, but which never had unique names.
A cheat unit version also exists, the Walking Berry Bush. In the Extended Edition, there were also units with the generic name Walking Tree in the Scenario Editor, one with an Acacia and another with a Bamboo model.
The god power can be reused with a base cost of 150 favor and a ramping cost of +50 favor, recharging in 180 seconds.
The unit summoned by the god power is called Walking Woods.
Up to seven can be summoned with one use.
Walking Woods have 16 hack attack, 30 crush attack, 80% crush armor, and 16 Line of Sight.
Walking Woods gain +20% hit points and attack in the Mythic Age. They further gain +100% hit points, +100% attack, and +20% speed in the Wonder Age.
With update 17.27932, the base cost of Walking Woods god power is decreased to 100 favor.
Mythology[]
“
Slow to anger, but fierce when aroused, these ambulatory trees aggressively defend their territory. Their trunks turn axes that would normally fell them and only heroes are tough enough to stave them off effectively.
