Vytautas the Great is a cavalry hero in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.
Though the unit has a unique appearance, his speed and attack style are similar to that of a Knight or Paladin.
Campaign appearances[]
- Algirdas and Kestutis
- He appears in dialogues in In the Shadow of the Throne, but the unit itself does not appear.
- Jadwiga
- He appears in Duel of the Dukes, The Siege of Vilnius, Vytautas' Crusade, and The Fruits of Her Labor.
- Jan Zizka
- He appears in the scenario Courage and Coin as himself, and in Warrior of God as the renamed Zygimantas Korybut.
Although he does not appear at all in any of the scenarios in the Tamerlane campaign, it is implied that the narrator of the cutscenes is Vytautas, relaying the tale of Tamerlane by Tokhtamysh.
History[]
Vytautas (c. 1350 โ 27 October 1430), also known as Vytautas the Great (Lithuanian: Vytautas Didysis, Vitaลญt; Polish: Witold Kiejstutowicz, Witold Aleksander, or Witold Wielki; Ruthenian: Vitovt; Latin: Alexander Vitoldus; Old German: Wythaws or Wythawt) from the late 14th century onwards, was a ruler of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. He was also the Prince of Grodno (1370โ1382), Prince of Lutsk (1387โ1389), and the postulated king of the Hussites. In modern Lithuania, Vytautas is revered as a national hero and was an important figure in the national rebirth in the 19th century.
