—In-game description |
Victorian Era is a technology available in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - Knights of the Mediterranean that can be researched at a Trading Post or Tambo built on a House of Hanover palace. Once researched, it immediately advances the player to the Imperial Age regardless of the player's current Age. Additionally, a Factory Wagon appear at the Home City shipment point. The cost of the technology can be reduced by earning XP; each point of XP earned by training units or constructing buildings reduces the food and gold cost by an equal amount.
This technology is the only technology in the game that specifically cannot be researched if the player has revolted. For Mexican players, returning to Mexico after revolting will allow the technology to be researched again.
It is unaffected by Home City Cards that reduce the cost of native technologies.
Strategy[]
Victorian Era is useful only under certain conditions when the player intends to save the cost of advancing to the Imperial Age, when the battle is fierce. Since the cost of the technology is only reduced when the player trains units or constructs buildings, XP rewarded by killing enemies or XP trickles are irrelevant. Most training and building bounty XP of units and buildings are 10% of their original cost, which means that if the player wants to save 8,000 resources, they must invest approximately 80,000 resources in training and building.
If the player views the Victorian Era as an option for acquiring the third factory, it gives the advantage of generating more resources than the competitor in the late games.
Civilizations with crucial bonuses at the Industrial Age and Imperial Age should not use the Victorian Era, since this technology prevents the player from receiving Age-up bonuses. The player forfeits the chance of receiving bonuses from Wonders, Federal States, and Alliances when using the Victorian Era.
Changelog[]
