Vermont is an Industrial Age Federal State in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, available to the United States. As soon as the player advances to the Industrial Age by choosing Vermont, 600 wood appears at the Home City shipment point and the following Home City cards will be added into the U.S. player's deck:

Blue: Shipment that arrives fast
Card Description
Federal card green mountain boys Green Mountain Boys Existing and new Mills and Estates spawn 3 State Militia
Federal card vermont coppers Vermont Coppers Estate technologies are free and researched instantly; Coin gather rate +5%

Strategy[]

Similar to South Carolina, Vermont is a Federal State that favors the use State Militia, but unlike its twin Federal State, Vermont offers some economic upgrades and focuses on Estates and Mills. This Federal State ships 600 wood, which can be used for building one Estate or one Mill (in this second case, the player will be left with 200 wood).

Green Mountain Boys makes each Mill and Estate spawn three State Militia and arrives fast; this Federal Card is best used to counter raids targeted against the player economy. State Militia are already a peculiar unit able to counter other infantry and has the ability of increasing hit points per State Militia nearby. In this aspect, Vermont can be used in conjunction with federal states such as Tennessee (Watauga Association spawns two State Militia per Outpost) or Indiana (Indiana Mobilization reduces unit train time and technology research time by 10%) for aging up to the Fortress Age. Probably the best pick in the Commerce Age is Pennsylvania if going for a State Militia combo with Vermont, as Tammany Festival enables Cree Textile Craftsmanship, which allows all villagers to build Estates and Mills faster, and Cree Tanning, which improves the hit points of the State Militia by 5%. For Aging up to the Imperial Age, the player may pick Illinois for getting Land of Lincoln, which increases the Area of Effect of Inspiring Flags, and also increases the hit points of nearby units; Illinois also offers Deere Steel Plow, which improves the gather rates from Mills and Estates.

Vermont is an excellent bridge State between New Hampshire and New York, since these two federal states have a focus on mercenary units; considering all mercenaries costs coin, Vermont Coppers comes in handy by improving all coin gather rate by 5%, while Estate technologies becomes free. Vermont is also a good State if the player is going for a Fast Imperial Strategy, particularly if the player picked Delaware in the Commerce Age. Delaware has the Fertile Lowlands federal card, which Ships 6 semi-fattened Cows and 2 Homestead Wagons; these Homestead Wagons can be used for building Estates or Mills, which synergizes with both Vermont Federal cards. Two Estates should be the preferred option if going Delaware → Vermont, considering Estates are more expensive than Mills.

  • TEAM Alaska Purchase: Ships 6 Polar Bears; Existing Town Centers spawn 1 Silver Prospector Wagon. Vermont Coppers increases the gathering rates from mine, so this is synergic.
  • Advanced Homesteading: Ships 2 Homestead Wagons; Mills and Estates get +15 Line of Sight and support 10 population.
  • Virginia General Assembly: Ships 1 State Capitol Wagon; The next technology researched at the State Capitol (except Spies and Blockade) is free; State Capitol build limit +1. This is important, as State Capitols are able to train wagons that can build several buildings, including Estates and Mills.
  • Establish Ironmonger, Silversmith, Rum Distillery, Cigar Roller, Dutch Immigrants and Textile Mill: Vermont Coppers improves coin gathering rates, so it will stack up with all of these Home City Cards.
  • Refrigeration and Minneapolis Mills: If the player picks Vermont because they are using Mills and Estates extensively, the gathering rates of Mills should be increased.
  • Stonemasons and Land Grab: These two ease the building cost and time of both Estates and Mills.
  • German Immigrants: Each existing and newly constructed Mill spawns 1 Settler Wagon; In the Industrial Age, players can recruit up to 5 Settler Wagons from Mills as well.
  • Oklahoma Black Mesa: Ships 1 Coal Prospector Wagon and 5 Gunslingers; Gunslingers can gather coin from mines.
