| —Age of Empires IV description | ||
The Venetian Trader is a unique Trader of the Knights Templar in Age of Empires IV: Knights of Cross and Rose. It is unlocked at the Market after selecting Republic of Venice as the commanderie ally in the Imperial Age. It is used to generate resources through trade with other players' Markets or Docks, or with neutral Trade Posts.
It is the only trader that the Knights Templar have access to.
Unit comparison[]
| Cost | 60 wood, 60 gold | 80 wood, 120 gold |
| Hit points | 90 | 120 |
| Speed | 1 | 1.88 |
| Gold generation | 1x gold / second | ~3.3x gold / second |
The Venetian Trader is a significantly improved version of the Trader. Not only is it significantly faster, but it also generates between 70%-75% more gold per trip, depending on the trade route length. This results in an overall resource generation rate over 3x greater than a Trader. The details of the income formula are included on the trade page. The speed of the Venetian Trader also allows it to outrun any unit in the game, making it essentially unraidable. The maximum number of allowable Venetian Traders are equivalent to about 16 generic Traders, making the Templar late-game trade economy significantly more population efficient than that of most other civilizations. However, typical trade routes in the post-Imperial Age contain well over 16 Traders, so the Knights Templar cannot solely rely on Venetian Traders to carry their gold economy, and must still rely on Pilgrims.
