The Cuerudo (previously Vaquero) is an outlaw in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition.
Overview[]
As with Revolutionaries, revolting into Mexico will turn all Settlers into Cuerudos, and they can be trained in place of Settlers at Town Centers.
Cuerudos are similar to Comancheros, but with the following differences:
- Cost 100 food, 60 coin and take 1 population.
- Are classified as heavy cavalry.
- Have lower hit points (180) and movement speed (6.5).
- Have higher resistance (40% vs. ranged and 20% vs. siege).
- Ranged attack fires four shots in a quick succession, like that of Organ Guns, which is more effective against light infantry and artillery.
- Have a siege attack of 11.

Trivia[]
- As with the Comanchero and Outlaw Rider, Cuerudos appear to use a muzzle-loading pistol, as seen from the movement of their hand at the muzzle of the gun in each shot (despite the weapon in their portrait and in-game model resembling a revolver rather than a muzzle-loading pistol).
- Cuerudos wear a sombrero hat which allows them to be differentiated from Comancheros and its other revolutionary variants.
- As with other revolutionary variants, all Comancheros' hats will be changed into Cuerudos' sombrero when the player revolts into Mexico, but their stats remain unchanged.
- Update 54545 changed the original name from Definitive Edition Vaquero for Cuerudo with the release of the Mexicans civilization pack. There is no unit that has been introduced that is named Vaquero; however, the Cuatrero is called
deSaloonVaquero
in the game files.- Possibly, the Cuatrero was called "Vaquero" before the official release of the Mexican civilization, as can be seen in the trailer preview, where the first Federal Card for Sonora was called "Sonora Vaqueros", and was planned to be the Saloon variant of the Cuerudo, as the Cowboy has a revolution and a Saloon variant.
- Contrary to its in-game role as an outlaw, real-life Cuerudos were landowners and muleteers who usually worked on Haciendas.
History[]
Vaqueros are Mexican horsemen who tended to livestock who originates in the Iberian Peninsula. They serve as the inspiration for cowboys in North America.
On the other hand, charros are horsemen from Central Mexico which acts as the counterpart of vaqueros but with distinct differences including clothing, mannerism, and social status. During the Mexican War of Independence, many charros serve for both the Mexican revolutionaries and the Spanish Crown.
Cuerudo is a term that refers to vaqueros or cattlemen who wore clothing made entirely of leather or suede (a type of leather made from the underside of animal skin).
