Images Edit

Hi. Just a quick comment to the images you've been uploading: we don't usually place images in article introductions. There's a gallery at the bottom of most articles where images can be added.Narve (talk) 17:40, February 18, 2019 (UTC)

Sorry, I probably should have spoke to someone before adding that stuff. I thought adding the sprites to articles like that would give it more flavor. Are you an admin? Am I allowed to keep making those kinds of edits? -- XZippy (talk) 15:28, February 19, 2019 (UTC)
Yes, I'm an admin. If you want to add images to articles, I suggest you add them to the gallery at the bottom of the page. I can't promise that someone else won't remove them - it depends on whether people think it adds something to the page. But I recommend that you go ahead.Narve (talk) 11:58, February 20, 2019 (UTC)
Some people are undoing the images I did, so I undid some of mine as well. I'll just leave everything alone unless I can get enough people to agree with me. I just think having a sprite there gives the pages a bit more flavor. -- XZippy (talk) 11:33, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
Who are the other admins? I wanna convince them of my editing idea. I've been adding awesome images to other wikias that no one else would ever do. Maybe I'm the image fairy? I exist to spice up pages and give them flavor. 😉 -- XZippy (talk) 14:39, February 24, 2019 (UTC)
Just add them to the gallery at the bottom of the article in question. They're more likely to be accepted there.Narve (talk) 20:06, February 24, 2019 (UTC)

The images you're uploading are truly excellent, but I have a quick suggestion: if you're going to upload any more images, please follow the image guidelines for naming by including what game it's from. For example, the file File:BallisticsDE.png could refer to the Ballistics (Age of Empires) technology or the Ballistics (Age of Empires II) technology - it's impossible to know from the name, so it should be called "BallisticsAoE2 DE" or something like that. Also, it should also be categorized with the category Category:Icons (Age of Empires II). I'm not saying you have to go through all your previous uploads, but please keep it in mind in future.

That said, it's great that you're uploading these icons; thank you. I can replace some old icon usages with my bot.Narve (talk) 16:41, March 30, 2020 (UTC)

For edits like this, please add where you got the image from. You said it was an artbook, but was it an AoE1 artbook, AoE2, AoE3, or AoM?Narve (talk) 16:55, March 30, 2020 (UTC)
Never mind, I see it's the AoE2 DE icon. But in that case, it should be called "CowAoE2 DE", not "animal prev" (an undescriptive title).Narve (talk) 16:59, March 30, 2020 (UTC)
I'll fix whatever image names I can and use the proper titles in the future. There's WAY more HD/DE icons in the "..\AoE2DE\widgetui\textures\ingame\units" dir that have no names and I absolutely can NOT do all of that myself. Is there somewhere I can announce for some help? I just got done with the entire "tech" folder which took me a painful amount of hours to go through. -- XZippy (talk) 17:05, March 30, 2020 (UTC)
The easiest solution would be to create a blog post and get other people involved. Either they can help upload the images, or those of us who have the game, can focus on uploading the images, and others can replace existing ones. If we want to have an impact on a lot of articles, we can go to Template:AoEII_Icons and replace the old icons there - but let's make sure we have consensus for that first.Narve (talk) 17:15, March 30, 2020 (UTC)

I'm creating a blog post now.Narve (talk) 17:16, March 30, 2020 (UTC)

How did you convert the images to .png?Narve (talk) 17:20, March 30, 2020 (UTC)

The files are in .DDS format. But if you use a program called DDS Viewer, you can instantly "Save As..." them to any other format. -- XZippy (talk) 17:42, March 30, 2020 (UTC)

You still haven applied Category:Icons (Age of Empires II) to your new uploads. If you're using Special:MultipleUpload, you can do this by adding [[Category:Icons (Age of Empires II)]] (without the nowiki tags) to the summary box when uploading files.Narve (talk) 08:33, April 1, 2020 (UTC)

Motion Pictures & Animations! Edit

Hey there, nice work on producing this image! The introduction of units like the Konnik proved that motion pictures will be tremendously useful, especially when depicting unit death and demolished building cut scenes that otherwise wouldn't be captured with a motionless photo. If a picture speaks 1000 words, I bet a movie speaks 1000 pictures which is why I believe motion pictures should be included with every page here. Due to the massive popularity of Age of Empires II, we can just start there and work our way to other games in this series.

These new changes require good categorization, which is why this page was created. Do you think you could expand this photo set featuring the animation cinematic of every single unit just for AoE2? If this sounds overwhelming, I bet @Anadara can help out with this new project due to this gif while I myself can focus on the tedious aspect of image categorization which leaves a lot to to be desired here. Since I was the one who spearheaded that initiative, this will give me a good opportunity to stay occupied for a while.

I'm all for adding new GIF's and such, but uhhhh... yeeeahhh... I don't know about doing that for every single unit. Also, I think there's already a GIF for the Konnik, but I can make another one if need be. If I'm not mistaken, the game has ~300 units, even with help that's... yeah... -- XZippy (talk) 17:51, April 4, 2020 (UTC)

Since no one opposed my nomination for your promotion for about a week, you have been promoted. Congratulations! UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 16:49, April 5, 2020 (UTC)

Sweet sweet lord. I'm absolutely florid. I will be as responsible as humanly possible. Is my name allowed on the active staff members list? -- XZippy (talk) 18:02, April 5, 2020 (UTC)
I will change it now. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 18:26, April 5, 2020 (UTC)
Is it alright if my name is bolded orange? ;) -- XZippy (talk) 18:42, April 5, 2020 (UTC)
Um, probably not. All the moderators are yellow, and all the admins are green. You should probably just change it to the yellow that mods use. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 18:58, April 5, 2020 (UTC)
Wait sorry, I meant yellow. How exactly am I able to change that myself? -- XZippy (talk) 19:12, April 5, 2020 (UTC)
I don't know. I already asked Narve to handle it, so neither you nor I need to. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 19:32, April 5, 2020 (UTC)
The color for the moderator position is actually orange. All you have to do is copy paste the username below the "/* Moderators */" section on this page.  SageCraft95   Lets send tribute!   11:42,4/6/2020    215
Look how yellow I am! -- XZippy (talk) 21:31, April 6, 2020 (UTC)
Nice! Welcome to the cadre!  SageCraft95   Lets send tribute!   23:33,4/6/2020    215

Image categories Edit

Just a quick note: Images should generally only be categorized with image categories. For example, File: Tariq aoe2DE.png has six categories, only one of which [Icons (Age of Empires II)] should actually be there. Also, categories are added by adding [[Category:Icons (Age of Empires II)]], not {{Category:Icons (Age of Empires II)}}, which will make it show up as a template, not a category (so it's not visible in the category box on the right-hand side).Narve (talk) 20:18, April 14, 2020 (UTC)

And please note that I don't want you to feel discouraged by this - you do so much hard work for this wiki, I think it's important that we get the details right. Small mistakes made over a large number of pages presents a bigger problem for you (or someone else) to correct later. You have made tremendous additions to the wiki, so please don't think we don't appreciate your work.Narve (talk) 20:48, April 14, 2020 (UTC)
Like I said, please don't use non-image categories for images (like you've done here.Narve (talk) 07:39, April 15, 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I was using a copy-paste script that I forgot to turn off (back when I was mass uploading huuuuge amounts of Hero portraits). If there's anything else I goofed up that I can still fix, please let me know. -- XZippy (talk) 07:41, April 15, 2020 (UTC)

I have an offer for youEdit

Hey, so, I noticed you mentioned you're a game designer in my bio. If you aren't already working for someone, would you be interested in joining my game studio? I could use as many people as I can find. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 02:13, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

I might have jumped the gun on that a bit. The game developer thing is more of a past-tense thing. And I use what skills I had left over on whatever wiki's I frequent. -- XZippy (talk) 11:37, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

3D Modelling ToolsEdit

Hey there! What type of software tools do you generally use for 3D modelling? I'm no expert on this topic, but have accumulated 2000+ hrs of experience using CAD such as SolidWorks, AutoDesk & ANSYS. If you're interested, feel free to check out my 3D modelling portfolio.
