Crown/unique tech images

Hey it's that XZippy clown blowing up your talk page again. I uploaded the classic AoE2 silver and gold crown images. Are you alright using your bot to add a tab-controlled "Definitive" and "Original" thing for the images on those unique tech pages? The reason I made those pages with only the DE version is because some people before really scrambled how the images show up. And I'm sure your bot could fix that instantly rather than a standard user like me editing 100 pages one by one. -- XZippy (talk) 01:21, May 20, 2020 (UTC)

No problem. Just make the change you want to a single page first, and I'll copy it to all the others (I presume it's all the articles in Template:Unitech, except the DE ones).Narve (talk) 15:20, May 20, 2020 (UTC)
I edited the Yeomen and Warwolf pages. That should work as a template. -- XZippy (talk) 04:18, May 22, 2020 (UTC)
I've implemented the changes.Narve (talk) 12:56, May 22, 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Would like to talk you privately. Where can I contact you?

Artificiiall (talk) 04:47, May 22, 2020 (UTC)

In case you're wondering who this guy is, he's Hera's YouTube manager. He contacted me via Twitter DMs. Don't worry, what he wants to talk to you about is just business. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 13:50, May 22, 2020 (UTC)
Some technology icons from AoE2 are kinda larger than they should be. Should I change them all to the standard small 36×36 ones? Also, should we have a page for multiplayer? Seems like an important page to have. -- XZippy (talk) 12:43, May 23, 2020 (UTC)

Which icons in particular? I usually prefer larger icons, as it's possible to identify what they're depicting. Having a multiplayer article sounds like a good idea.Narve (talk) 19:44, May 23, 2020 (UTC)

What more should I put on the multiplayer page? There's so much to talk about that I can't decide what should or shouldn't be mentioned. -- XZippy (talk) 10:57, May 26, 2020 (UTC)
Ask in the article's comments.Narve (talk) 15:36, May 26, 2020 (UTC)
Can I also make a page for the "Flare/Signal Allies" function? -- XZippy (talk) 17:36, May 28, 2020 (UTC)
Go ahead.Narve (talk) 17:46, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

Fix the Saracens page, Aoe 2

Please, fix the mistake at the Saracens page of Aoe 2, where I read that ""the Muslims have tolerance toward other religions"".

You may read that again for the Saracens who conquered Persia- 651 AD

Read that what the Muslims did to the Native religions at Persia, after conquering it - 651 AD.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_Zoroastrians

And that is the Result of the Perscecution...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Iran

Now 99,4 % of the people who live at Iran are Muslims, Islamic.

It is nearly 100 %.

Read here for the Religion of Turkey, when Ottomans( Turks) conquered Byzantium..

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_in_Turkey

About 99 % are Muslims at Turkey.

The Muslims ( Saracens, Turks) have NOT tolerance toward other Religions.

The Muslims persecuted other religions.

Like I've already told you, the history section is a direct quote from the website of Forgotten Empires (the game's developers). If you want it changed, take it up with them. We're just a wiki.Narve (talk) 08:12, May 27, 2020 (UTC)

DE icons in Scenario articles

Narve, was this discussed in the end? Should we add DE icons to the infobox pre-DE campaign articles like in DE campaigns? E.g.:

--Eljuma (talk) 16:01, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

I don't think it was discussed, so we should hold a discussion before applying any changes.Narve (talk) 16:08, May 28, 2020 (UTC)
I love the hell out of the idea, assuming the bot can handle most of it. -- XZippy (talk) 17:35, May 28, 2020 (UTC)
Well I don't know if this is a vote or the place to discuss it, but just in case: mine is yes.--Eljuma (talk) 16:25, May 29, 2020 (UTC)
No, this isn't the place to discuss it. We need to have a blog post discussion about it (the forum would theoretically be an alternative, but it seems to have disappeared, and no one used it anyway).Narve (talk) 21:20, May 29, 2020 (UTC)

Non-English commenter

Hello, a user by the name of Patt2020 repeatedly comments in languages other than English. I've told them multiple times not to do it, but they won't listen. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 22:38, June 18, 2020 (UTC)

It's quite possible that he hasn't seen your replies - you should have left a message on his talk page when he continued to comment. I have done that now.Narve (talk) 14:34, June 19, 2020 (UTC)
Ah yes, that would make sense. I'm still relatively new to this whole admin thing, so that wasn't the first thing to come to mind. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 14:52, June 19, 2020 (UTC)

Thanks and a request

Hey, thanks a ton for fixing up the disambiguated links and pluralisation, I was editing quite late at night! Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 07:19, June 20, 2020 (UTC)

If you don't mind while I'm here, I had something regarding image files to ask you about, which comes with a move request for a few files. As context, there seems to be a little bit of confusion with the AOE3 civ flag files (edit: this category). Most follow a similar format, File:Flag (civilization) large normal.png, which seems to be because they were uploaded by the same guy back in 2012. The large normal appears to represent the fact that they were larger than previously existing files and in the perfect aspect ratio.

However, I recently noticed some of the Expansion civilizations don't match, such as File:Indiaflag.png, Chinese-flag-aoe-iii.png and File: Japanflag.png. These filenames seem to be from a previous convention (eg File:Britishflag.png). Most of files following that convention were removed in 2019 by Broccoli, presumably because they were of lesser quality, but these three remaining ones haven't had their filenames updated to match the other civilizations. I'd ask him about it, but I saw on his user page that he's on a break from the wiki. TLDR/In short, is it possible to start cleaning up these flag files by moving those three (India/Chinese/Japan) flags to their respective File:Flag (civilization) large normal.png pages? Thanks in advance. Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 07:50, June 20, 2020 (UTC)

PS: I should mention when I dug a little further into the subject, some of these have duplicates (I have added a number of them to Category:Flags (Age of Empires III) for visibility) but I'm not sure what to do with them yet. I figure they might need to be checked on Special:WhatLinksHere for uses on articles and such first before asking for them to be deleted or some things might break, but I imagine you probably have more experience and I leave that to your discretion. (-Tech)
Thanks for your hard work. We have a image policy for image names. So the flags should be located at (for example) ChineseFlagAoE3. I can rename the images later, and then run a bot to fix all uses. When it's just one or two uses, it's easier to just change them manually than to run the bot.
I also removed some links in your post, since the images were moved or deleted.Narve (talk) 10:09, June 20, 2020 (UTC)
Cool, I'll keep an eye out for the bot changes in that category, and yeah if the Bot can look through WhatLinksHere and fix it automatically, that would be ideal instead of having File-namespace redirects!
Regarding the image naming policy, is there any particular reason they're typed in camelcase without spaces? I would have assumed File: Chinese flag aoe3 would be easier to read and edit, but I suppose it's a stylistic choice either way and I should be able to work with both. Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 17:29, June 20, 2020 (UTC)
No real reason for the camelcase, no. Just a trend that has developed over time.Narve (talk) 01:22, June 21, 2020 (UTC)

Civilization Template tab

Hi, I'm planning to use the Template:Civilization_tabs in my blog for a fan-made custom civilization for Age of Empires 2. Do you think it might cause several problems in the wiki or not? --Dark Paladin X (talk) 12:15, June 20, 2020 (UTC)

I see no reason why that would cause problem, so go ahead (though if you use the template, make sure that you also create the tech tree and strategy pages, to avoid red links).Narve (talk) 01:22, June 21, 2020 (UTC)

Doctor (AOM)

Is it new that the Age of Mythology doctor is a hero? I was sure that he was a normal unit before or was he a hero all along?

--TheKerberos01 14:04, July 4, 2020 (UTC)

Okay, I mean the hippocrates/physician. --TheKerberos01 14:09, July 4, 2020 (UTC)
Like it says on the Hippocrates page, the unit was changed from a human unit (Physician) to a hero (Hippocrates) with patch 2.8Narve (talk) 11:40, July 5, 2020 (UTC)

Top-level category

Fandom strongly recommends that Category:Browse be renamed to Category:Age of Empires Series Wiki. In the past, Browse was standard, but more recent research has revealed non-descriptive words for top-level category names are really bad for SEO, and the sitename should be used instead.

Another question about Hoang

I'm wondering what to do about him. He's only had a few offenses since his block, but he does not seem to have learned his lesson, as he continues to promote piracy. Should I give him more time, or block him again? UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 17:17, July 19, 2020 (UTC)

He didn't condone piracy, he just commented on the absurdity of the two different meanings of the word. A lot of the comments you just deleted didn't contain anything improper - the only ones worthy of deletion were the ones asking for or promoting torrents. I've restored some of them.Narve (talk) 17:24, July 19, 2020 (UTC)
The Norwegian is correct and clearly the smartest among you. (That's a reference.)
But in all seriousness, you are right. I guess I just got a little wary of anything that sounded like it promoted piracy. Once again, I'm new to this adminship thing, so thanks for being patient with me, and feel free to calmly tell me whenever I did something wrong. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 17:31, July 19, 2020 (UTC)
No problem. That's another thing I wanted to mention: you should take care to speak calmly and politely to people. For example, User:Muhammad I the Sober might not have known that piracy was against the rules, so saying "we will be forced to block you" is a bit premature. Start with a polite comment (which you did - "Please do not ask how to pirate"); if he does it again, tell him he'll be blocked if he continues. A lot of people can be scared off when you start talking about blocking them (this is obviously only for minor offences - if the offence is large enough, we warn or even block the first time they do it).Narve (talk) 18:23, July 19, 2020 (UTC)
Ah yes, of course. I lack subtlety and tack in my everyday life, so this is unfortunately a consequence of that. I will make sure to be a little more calm from now on. Should I edit it? I feel like I should edit it. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 18:52, July 19, 2020 (UTC)

Question about adding YouTube videos

I run a YouTube channel, and one of the games I cover is Age of Empires II. I have a series called Extreme AI Matchups (with only 3 episodes so far), where two community-decided computer players fight each other on a map decided by a map pool, while I cast. It's helpful for seeing how AI players use the different civilizations, and I also go over the traits of each civ to help beginners. To make a long story short, I was wondering if I could add those videos to the wiki and put them on the relevant pages. It's not just self promotion; I think they would help a lot. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 01:27, July 31, 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the value to the wiki would be, but I see no harm in trying. Go ahead. But I would suggest adding it to one or two articles first, to see how the community responds.Narve (talk) 07:57, July 31, 2020 (UTC)
All right, thank you! The latest episode features the Teutons and Bulgarians, so I'll add the video to those pages. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 13:27, July 31, 2020 (UTC)
The way I see it, if MikeEmpires is able to include his videos just fine without a problem, I see no issues with including mine. Hopefully the community agrees! UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 13:36, July 31, 2020 (UTC)
