Canoes and catamaran Edit

They are three times less efficient at fishing/whaling than fishing boats, caravels, etc. I couldn't figure out how to link to the fishing ship category. Caravels, fishing boats, galleys, etc all share the same 0.67/0.5 gather rates. TheRealMictlantecuhtli (talk) 19:45, February 21, 2019 (UTC)

Maybe we could just write that? "They are less efficient than other fishing ships, like Fishing Boats and Caravels"? Incidentally, if you want to link to categories, it's like this: [[:Category:Fishing ships]] - put a colon in front of the link.Narve (talk) 18:06, February 22, 2019 (UTC)

Hey I noticed you did some cleaning up on the wars of liberty page. Could you explain the though process behind it and why we're sticking to old html coding? OuroDragon (talk) 23:47, March 11, 2019 (UTC)

The wiki markup has been used here since the beginning of the wiki. I don't think we should abandon it for a single page - all pages should follow the same formatting.Narve (talk) 11:20, March 13, 2019 (UTC)

Native and Arsenal technology pagesEdit

Who gave consensus to Nikitazero to create all the pages of the Native American technology pages? Examples like Yoga , Punjabi New Year , Nootka Potlatch ? And what about the Church improvement pages? I personally disagree with the creation of miniscule technology pages, the original form of them was better, because those articles don´t have any useful information aside that they can be explained in their origin page, for example "Thin Red Line " or "Wild Geese ", are fine if they are left in the church page, what is your take? Radhe Mohan 18:32, March 23, 2019 (UTC)

No one gave him permission - I asked him to seek consensus first, but he ignored it. He later created a blog post about it, but didn't receive any replies. I agree that they are unnecesary, but if you want them to be returned to redirects, you should start a discussion about it - either in Nikitazero's blog post, or create one of your own, or go to the forum.Narve (talk) 19:10, March 23, 2019 (UTC)

My biggest complaint is he is in such a rush he is making numerous little mistakes. Good on him for being enthusiastic, but I question if he wants to improve the wiki or just wants mod power since he did threaten me with a ban if he was a mod. The constant need for praise is a little off putting too, like he can't handle criticism. Like I was years ago, as the admin. I felt I owned the wiki, instead of it being for everyone. It is why a lot of the articles read like a love letter to Spain. TheRealMictlantecuhtli (talk) 20:03, March 23, 2019 (UTC)

Yes, I understand that I acted on my own, but I hate it if I can't act freely and my efforts were restricted, even if that's for the best. I also didn't like if there's someone who didn't appreciate my efforts and seeking to revert them. Well, if they're going to be reverted back to redirects, undoing all the trouble I went to make those pages, I don't mind, but from that point onward I'll cease contributing to the AoE Wiki and returns to the wikis I've been handling for (Mental Omega APYR, Rise of the Reds, etc.), since that clearly shows my efforts went unappreciated. Speaking of which, my justification for adding native, Church/Mosque, and Arsenal tech pages are quite simple: "if other techs in other AoE3 games have their own pages, why shouldn't native, Church/Mosque, and Arsenal techs have their own pages too?" Nikitazero (talk) 12:43, March 24, 2019 (UTC)
The original question was fit for a talk page @Radhe Mohan, but this is not really the place to discuss this matter. If you are unhappy with the way a person here acts and seek consensus about changes to the wiki, please use a valid platform as Narve suggested. Talk pages are really not meant to host discussions. Mp3 files Edit

Hi Narve, I have some sound effects about AoE2 units that I want to add into the Wiki but I can't (I don't know how to upload them). Can you convert my video (it includes the sound files I mentioned) into the suitable files & upload them?
Sorry, my bad description

NguyenAnhLam (talk) 15:23, April 7, 2019 (UTC)

As far as I understand, wiki sound files must be in .ogg format, so they would have to be converted. I can do that for you if you want me to.Narve (talk) 18:54, April 7, 2019 (UTC)
I'll send you the video (I'm a YouTuber) once I complete because my recorder got some weird troubles, I have to fix everything carefully (and more important, I'm really busy right now, I'll come back ASAP)
What about this video, bro? If you agree, I'll make a video with AoE sound effects only, it's just a video used to "introduce" I'm a fan of AoE xD

This video, the sound effects at 1:40
NguyenAnhLam (talk) 16:20, April 22, 2019 (UTC)
I'm not sure there's an easy way to extract just the sound files from a long video. Where did you get the sound files from to put them in the video?Narve (talk) 19:38, April 22, 2019 (UTC)
I used my phone, although sometimes the recorder got some weird troubles that the files can't be used, that's why I said I have to fix everything carefully. If you want, I'll make a video with the sound effects only, but give me some time, since I'm busy now, while making a video takes me almost 20~30 minutes
NguyenAnhLam (talk) 11:14, April 23, 2019 (UTC)
No, I don't see the value of a video full of sound effects. I can't imagine how we would use that on the wiki.Narve (talk) 08:12, April 24, 2019 (UTC)
Sorry for late reply, actually there are lots of sound effects that was changed or rare sound files, that's why
NguyenAnhLam (talk) 07:14, May 7, 2019 (UTC)
Yes, but I don't see the value of a long video. Surely it would be easier to go through the game files and just upload the audio directly.Narve (talk) 20:36, May 7, 2019 (UTC)
Aw, the video I sent you is just a funny video, if I make a video about sound effects only, it will be shorter. And about game files? Actually, I tried to find the sound in the game files but there was nothing (in Sound folder, right?), I'm using The Conquerors. And I have to record everything instead ;-;
NguyenAnhLam (talk) 14:02, May 8, 2019 (UTC)
Right, but I still don't know what the purpose of the video is meant to be.Narve (talk) 18:54, May 9, 2019 (UTC)

Age of Empires III Treasure Guardian templatesEdit

Hello Narve, I'm considering on whether to create a new template for the treasure guardians in Age of Empires III and its expansions. I was gonna ask several users on their opinion; including yours. Do you think its more appropriate to create a template for all animals in Age of Empires III? Or can I make them specific to their role. For example, Cows and Sheep can have template names like "Livestock in Age of Empires III" while treasure guardians like Wolves and Alligators could have template names like "Treasure Guardians in Age of Empires III". Perhaps it would be more appropriate to create a blog post on this, thanks. Radhe Mohan 06:00, May 4, 2019 (UTC)

I think all animals should share the same template. But you're right, it's better to create a blog post.Narve (talk) 09:21, May 4, 2019 (UTC)

Great White Shark pageEdit

Hi Narve, sorry to message you again so quickly. I was reading the Shark page and read a comment by a user stating there was no history page avalaible in the article for the Great White Shark in Age of Empires III. I would add the history of the Shark. Unfortunately I don't have The Asian Dynasties expansion in my computer anymore as I uninstalled it due to lack of storage space, do you happen to have by chance the expansion and could possibly add it? Its the only remaining animal unit in Age of Empires III without a history, thanks. Radhe Mohan 21:34, May 6, 2019 (UTC)

I've added the history section now.Narve (talk) 20:36, May 7, 2019 (UTC)

Grizzly Bear and Brown Bear merge?Edit

Is there a reason why the Grizzly Bear page in Age of Empires III isn't merged or lumped with the Brown Bear page? If you look upon both unit's historys, their scientific name is Ursus arctos; except the Grizzly Bear has a horiblis added to the name. I am assuming Grizzly Bear and Brown Bear's belong to the same species order and genus, and if the Komodo Dragon page has Age of Empires III version the Monitor Lizard, what was the reason for those 2 bear pages remaining seperate? Radhe Mohan 02:36, May 10, 2019 (UTC)

The Grizzly and Brown Bear are two units with different names in different games, so there's no reason to combine them. The Monitor Lizard/Komodo Dragon is the same unit in the same game - the only difference is that one is the pet version and the other is a treasure guardian (in the same way that the Outlaw Pistolero is the treasure guardian version of the Pistolero).Narve (talk) 05:38, May 10, 2019 (UTC)

Merge Whale pages into one main articleEdit

Hi Narve,

I am sure you played Age of Mythology and have quite the experience in it. If the Shark page in this wiki merges the Great White Shark in the Asian Dynasties along with the non interactable version in Age of Mythology into a singular page. I propose the same could possibly be done with the Whale page; which is currently a disambugation page. For example, whales are a diverse group of cetacens found all throughout the world, including Norway, we can thus redirect Whale (Age of Empires) and Whale (Age of Empires III) into a singular main Whale page.

My argument for this is because of pages like the Elephant . The Elephant page merges all wild huntable elephants in all of the Age of Empires series along with all elephant combat units from the series into a singular page. Since the whale appears in AoE for food, can be gathered for gold in AoE III and is a non decorative/interactable unit in AoM. We should merge Whale (Age of Empires) and Whale (Age of Empires III) into a whale page, where we remove the disambugation.
Whale AoM

Here is an image of a Whale in Age of Mythology, they do indeed exist.

Does it sem logical and legitamate to you? Radhe Mohan 02:40, May 15, 2019 (UTC)

Yes, that seems like a good idea.Narve (talk) 16:26, May 15, 2019 (UTC)

DE changes!Edit

Hey Narvae! I'm adding the civ and units changes of AoE DE. What do you think about removing the old information in the "Features" and "Civ/Infobox"? Although is my humble opinion, all the historic changes could be in the changelog and maintain the information of the top updated to the last patch, without the clarifications of others game versions that could go there.

Av93 (talk) 18:07, June 2, 2019 (UTC)

I like having the redundant information in the infobox and such, since it's easy to look up which changes apply to which version without having to go through the changelog. It's also been standard on the wiki for some time, so I think it should stay.Narve (talk) 17:26, June 3, 2019 (UTC)
Excellent work on the changelogs, by the way! That has been a sadly neglected part of the wiki.Narve (talk) 17:26, June 3, 2019 (UTC)

DE changelogEdit

Well, I would defend the point to keep the new bonus to the civs in the changelog, to have a view were the things added. Although you can see because it's explained with the underlined comment, for me seems more clean to have a list. BTW, I will keep updating numbers of DE!

Fandom UniversityEdit

I am adding a Fandom University player to the Special:Community page to help out new or inexperienced editors on all wikis that are willing to accept it. You can see what it would look like on the Diablo Wiki. This is done with ImportJS and so can easily be removed at any time. Would you be ok with this addition here?

Did you know section Edit

Hello! I've noticed that the trivia section on the Main Page says ...that Age of Empires: The Age of Kings is the only game in the series that is played on the Nintendo DS?, which is actually incorrect as Age of Empires: Mythologies is also on the DS. I am bringing this to your attention as I assume only an admin can edit this. HotNISMO (talk) 00:25, June 21, 2019 (UTC)

I've removed the claim now.Narve (talk) 04:59, June 21, 2019 (UTC)

Hello, can I add screenshots of Age of Empires 3 in which texts appear in another language, even explaining the text in the description of the image in English? Ricky Robaina (talk) 05:40, June 24, 2019 (UTC)

There isn't much point - the text is already included in the page's history section. It's better if you zoom in to focus on the unit.Narve (talk) 17:16, June 24, 2019 (UTC)

Upside down imagesEdit

Interesting bug. I'm looking into it.
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 22:26, July 10, 2019 (UTC)

I asked around and did a couple of experiments and the working theory right now is that they were uploaded from a device or program that added orientation metadata to the image files that the wiki doesn't always recognize. You probably should submit a bug report. If you want to fix them manually, the only way I've found is to download the image, copy/paste it into a new image file, and overwrite the upside down image with the new copy. This process will remove the metadata, but it might be tedious depending on the number of problem images.

Hey, I am doing a review of the navigation bar across the wikis I manage as part of a larger effort to make wiki navigation more useful to readers as outlined in this blog. This wiki only has two tabs and one of them is aimed more toward editors (at least the policies and rights links). The Series tab actually seems pretty good, but perhaps two more tabs with different types of content for visitors might be useful.

Re: Joan of Arc Edit

I think heroes that only appear or are referenced in one campaign should be categorized to that effect. In another way if not in another. Buildings and locations as well. Eljuma (talk) 14:52, August 13, 2019 (UTC)

Campaign categories are reserved for campaign scenarios (as you can read here). If you have a problem with anything written in there, please reply in my corresponding blog. MasterBroccoli (talk) 15:38, August 13, 2019 (UTC)

Discussions & infoboxesEdit

I've seen the subject of enabling Discussions on this wiki and moving to portable infoboxes have both come up on occasions in the past and was wondering what the current thoughts on them are?
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 08:00, September 1, 2019 (UTC)

The move to portable infoboxes has been completed, as far as I know. Last I checked, consensus was against Discussions - it's harder to keep track of than the forums, and leads to no increased activity in the wikis I've seen.Narve (talk) 08:10, September 1, 2019 (UTC)
Template:Civilization tabs hasn't been switched yet. Did you just miss it?
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 19:25, September 4, 2019 (UTC)
That's a navbox - it's only classified as an infobox to prevent it from blanking civilization pages (it is placed at the top of the page, and everything below a navbox is blanked on mobile).Narve (talk) 09:28, September 5, 2019 (UTC)

Thank you so much for this information! Ricky Robaina (talk) 09:34, September 8, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the help! How can I delete and restore the article without the edits I want to remove? Ricky Robaina (talk) 01:54, September 9, 2019 (UTC)

You can't - an admin must do it for you. I have already done so (in fact, I did it before leaving the above comment).Narve (talk) 15:43, September 9, 2019 (UTC)

Recover deleted pageEdit

Hello, Narve?

I am not sure how this works or if this is the right place to ask what I wanna ask but I found no other way to send you a message.

So I just got into fandom and wanted to make some pages for my mod. Sadly I didn't know about all rules. So I made which got deleted because mod civ pages are not allowed, even though it wasn't really a civ page, but it was all made up by me so fair enough. Not an issue, I understand now.

However, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to recover everything that was written there so I can post it somewhere else. I didn't save it anywhere before posting it here and I see no way of accessing the page history anymore so yeah. I had to ask you. If only you can see could you send it over in any way? If not, no problem.

Thanks. Mandosrex (talk) 00:46, September 8, 2019 (UTC)

Template oddities Edit

I've found out that Template:Civilization tabs are considered as an infobox by the system, so it is incorrectly shown among the list of non-portable infoboxes on Insights. Since it is locked for editing by non-moderators, perhaps you could look into this issue? Nikitazero (talk) 11:42, September 21, 2019 (UTC)

AoE quote tags Edit

The reason I removed some of them was because they looked "broken" - they were written in bold and italic at the same time and were a larger font than the rest of the page, which looked really out of place. They look just fine now however, so I don't know what happened there. Sorry...Felixrr (talk) 07:22, September 28, 2019 (UTC)

Can modification civilisations have their own pages? Edit

Hi, I am from the Struggle of Indonesia development team, a modification project for Age of Empires III. I come with a question regarding the limits of a game modification's page(s) on this wiki.

We already have the main information page (Struggle of Indonesia), but are we allowed to have pages for the new civilisations in which are introduced by the modification? I was thinking that it would be neat if we could have those pages, but at the same time, I understand if you prefer to not have too many pages on non-original content.

However, to avoid the confusion of the users of the wiki in differentiating between original and non-original content, we could make it an obligation for all non-original content minor pages (e.g., civilisations, natives, etc.) to be a subpage of the main page. For example, for the page of the civilisation Johor introduced in Struggle of Indonesia, the page name could be Struggle of Indonesia/Johor. I hope that my question makes sense and that my thoughts shall be considered by the administration.

Hello! We don't include articles for mod civilizations on this wiki, so I'm afraid not. The only mod articles we allow on the wiki are articles for the mods themselves. But thank you for asking - occasionally, we have people showing up who start to create pages for mod civilizations, and it's always a bit sad that they've wasted all that time when the articles are deleted.Narve (talk) 20:35, October 8, 2019 (UTC)

New Cleaner AoEII Icons from DE Edit

I've uploaded some images of the new icons for the Age of Empires II ages taken from the Definitive Edition. I wanted to replace the old low-res images, however, the old ones are JPG images, while the new ones are all PNGs. Is there a way to change the old attachments to the new file?

These are the images mentioned above: I, II, III, IV.

There are also new and sharper icons of all the expansion packs, however the image that exists on the wiki is mostly used across the wiki with its full size since it is already small, so I decided to upload them as new images to avoid any problems.

These are the images mentioned above: AoK/Base game, TC, TF, AK, RR, and LK/The Last Khans (Definitive Edition).

I hope that there is a way to get these images in their places, since they're much better for usage across the wiki, espeically in places where large images are crucial.

I've made an experimental icon template for AoE2 which seems to be much better than the old 2icon template. The said template uses the new icons, so feel free to test it. The template is Template:AoE2Icon. Nikitazero 17:44, November 10, 2019 (UTC)

This can be easily handled by a bot (either mine or User:MasterBroccoli's). We'll need consensus first, but that shouldn't be hard - the new images are obviously better.Narve (talk) 19:07, November 11, 2019 (UTC)

Changing image filenames Edit

I accidentally uploaded the campaign icons for campaigns 1-11 without changing the filenames to the same filename format that we have for the Last Khans and Rise of the Rajas campaign icons. Can you please change them to match with the format "CampaignIcon-(campaign name).png", or does it not matter if it is not uniformed?
