AoE3 Trouble Edit

Hi Narve, I think I should ask you a question: I'm an Age of Empires 3 fans, I don't buy it on Stream and instead buying a CD to install it. It's really a full version game not the trial version but I have some trouble I really can't understand:

You see?

This is the first cutscene of Nathaniel campaign, Nathaniel lead a group of militia (this video is from Youtube). As you can see they use clothes like a Redcoat but in my game, those Militia used a Veteran Musketeer skin instead (it also happened in Scenario Editor). I don't know whyNguyenAnhLam (talk)

As long as it still works the same, I don't see why this is a problem.Narve (talk) 17:53, September 17, 2017 (UTC)

Wikibreak Edit

Hi Narve, sorry about your oncoming operation. Hope everything is alright & nothing is too serious. I hope you get better soon. Feel free to take a longer break if you need to.

Thanks. Surgery went well. Just a small wrist operation, but I can't type with my left hand for the next week or two. I'll probably hang around, but don't expect any large edits.Narve (talk) 09:34, September 22, 2017 (UTC)

I am freeee, 10,000 years in prison! Yes!.... 20:01, October 9, 2017 (UTC)

Fanon PagesEdit

I was looking at an archived talk page the other day, and I saw someone ask about fanon pages. It seems that he attempted to make an Age of Empires Fanon Wiki, but it was rejected. I wanted to know if maybe instead of just making fanon pages on blogs, we could make them actual articles, but with a template telling people it's fanon. Could that work? Would you be fine with that?

UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 22:26, October 28, 2017 (UTC)

No, I would not be OK with that. This wiki is for official content, and we don't want to mix fanon units with real ones.Narve (talk) 05:50, October 29, 2017 (UTC)
Somehow I thought you wouldn't be. Thanks anyway. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 12:45, October 30, 2017 (UTC)
@UnofficialGameExpert78 & @Narve: Actually, there is a simple way to do it without mixing or screwing up official content from user or fan made material. The solution is simple: use an article title structure in the form of Fanon:Scenario/Name of user created scenario for articles that focus on user generated scenarios. A similar thing can be done for mods where all user created articles would be titled under Fanon:Mod/Name of user created mod. Many wikis in Wikia already have used a similar format, for example the Spore Wiki and Avatar Wiki which are both well known for fanmade material. What this article format does is essentially brings 2 wikis into one single, unified wiki. A separate portal or main page can be created to support the entire system. That way, creating a separate wiki for fanmade material wouldn't be necessary.

All of this can be easily done since this wiki is not affiliated with Microsoft or any other corporation & is largely owned by the editors & contributors around here. As a result, we could theoretically do whatever we want with this place, so long it is within our rules.

The Age of Empires series have a phenomenal fan base largely due to the ability to generate your own content using the Scenario Editor which is arguably, my favorite thing about the game. It is for this very reason why I joined this wiki in the first place. If there is a number 1 rule for this place, it would be to have fun editing the wiki which is what this new project will be about. Such creativity shouldn't be shunned or discouraged, since I actually have thoughts about doing it on a blog several years ago as an admin, but couldn't find a way to do it.

However, the only thing that would prevent us from doing so would be opposition from other editors who believe that this wiki should only be about about official information published by Microsoft or any other foreign entity. In that case, a poll can be created & placed on to the Main Page so that others can vote or provide feedback about this possibility for a new project.

That sounds like a great idea, X~Calibur95. I feel like there are some people who would believe it is Heresy to have fanon pages on an official wiki, as evidenced by Narve's response. A poll is a great idea.

Question about Black RidersEdit

hey! i have a question :P

can spawn black riders somehow in TAD while im playing as french? if no, which country can spawn them in saloons?

All the European civilizations can train Black Riders from the Saloon, but it's random which mercenaries are available (except the Outlaw-type ones), so they won't appear in every game.Narve (talk) 19:41, November 3, 2017 (UTC)

Who you areEdit

Is your real name Orjan Larsen and is your nickname the Viper? Also is this url of your twitter account? 21:40, November 18, 2017 (UTC)

No, that's not me.Narve (talk) 07:38, November 19, 2017 (UTC)

Editing Blog TitleEdit

Hello! Is there any way for me to edit the title of one of my blog posts? Thanks. UnofficialGameExpert78 23:07, November 21, 2017 (UTC)

If you click the arrow next to the edit button, there should be an option to rename the page.Narve (talk) 19:55, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
I don't see it. UnofficialGameExpert78 19:58, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
It's possible that only admins can move blog posts. Which post do you want moved, and to what?Narve (talk) 20:02, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
I have a blog post at Apache. I would like its name to be changed to Apache (Age of Empires II), since the Apache exist in Age of Empires III. One more thing --- how do I revert my signature to the default signature? I have to manually add the link to my user page. UnofficialGameExpert78 20:04, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
I've moved the page now. You change your signature in "Preferences" (see this page for more info.Narve (talk) 20:10, November 22, 2017 (UTC)
All right, let's see if this works... UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 20:19, November 22, 2017 (UTC)

Hi Narve, I decided to quit so I would like you to either delete or remove this page. Thanks.

I'm very sorry to hear that, and I want you to know that you're welcome to return if you ever change your mind. I've deleted the page now.Narve (talk) 09:04, December 9, 2017 (UTC)

Tribute BlogEdit

Hello Narve,

I wrote a tribute to X~Calibur95 and I'd like it to be featured on the main page, since he was a big part of this wiki.

Thanks, UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 20:05, December 9, 2017 (UTC)

Never mind, I think I figured it out. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 20:07, December 9, 2017 (UTC)

I guess I didn't figure it out. Ignore my previous post. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 20:10, December 9, 2017 (UTC)

It should be visible now.Narve (talk) 10:45, December 10, 2017 (UTC)

Question Edit

Do you know who I am? RadheMohan69 (talk) 20:04, December 12, 2017 (UTC)

Yes, I do.Narve (talk) 15:00, December 13, 2017 (UTC)
Are you Balochistan? Just wondering. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 22:58, December 15, 2017 (UTC)

Cinematic pagesEdit

Hello, do you think it is appropriate to create pages for the cinematics of all campaign and scenarios of Age of Empires III? I won't be able to make all of them from Warchiefs to Asian Dynasties, but I can try to.RadheMohan69 (talk) 21:02, December 16, 2017 (UTC)

That sounds like a question that you should find community consensus for - create a blog post or a forum thread or something, and seek input. I don't want to decide that on my own.Narve (talk) 08:43, December 17, 2017 (UTC)

Cleanup on Asian Dynasties campaign pagesEdit

Hello Narve,

I assume you are Christain so you are celebrating Christmas today, I just wanted to wish you happy holidays and had two questions. What do you think of the scenario pages of Act II: China and how come you always clean them up, is there something I do consistingly that requires cleanup with the pages, I always see you editing my links and the tempelate. What exactly are you cleaning up? RadheMohan69 (talk) 01:30, December 26, 2017 (UTC)

Compressed infobox
I'm sorry I haven't thanked you for the hard work you've done on the AoEIII scenario pages. I really am grateful for the effort you've shown.
There are a few things I clear up on your pages: The infobox is compressed, making it hard to read and edit in the editor window. The image shows you what I mean. I assume you're using either the Visual Editor or the rich-text editor? I use the source editor, which gives you a lot more control over the page. You can change that in the Preferences, if you want.
Another thing I change is shortening links - if the page says Forest Prowlers, I shorten it to Forest Prowlers. That's a wiki standard that doesn't affect the page, but makes it easier to read when editing.
A third thing is the language. I know English isn't your first language (nor is it mine), and you make a few mistakes when you create pages. That's why I edit - to improve readability and help our readers.
I hope that explains it.Narve (talk) 09:40, December 26, 2017 (UTC)

AoE 3 Edit

Hello Narve, may I add some information for some AoE's pages? I can't play AoE3 anymore because my PC was down but I still remember my good time with this game, I still wanna distribution everything I know for it but I worry about being "criticized" as my English is not good enough and I think some users also feel "unwelcome" with me. Can I do it?

P/s: thank you for being one of the few users didn't "unwelcome" with my bad English NguyenAnhLam (talk) 12:06, January 3, 2018 (UTC)

You don't need anyone's permission to edit, so go ahead. If your English isn't good enough, we'll just rewrite it slightly to improve it (that happens to me sometimes - collaboration and improvements are what wikis are about). As long as you add some valuable text that improves the page, it's OK that the grammar and such isn't perfect.Narve (talk) 19:11, January 3, 2018 (UTC)

Spam Bot Edit

There was a spam bot/internet equivilants of a telemarketer on the Napoleonic Era mod talk page, advertising one of those fishy websites.

One for the ban-hammer.

Morayus1/XLightningStormL/Steelion69 (talk) 06:04, January 21, 2018 (UTC)

I've blocked, but there's usually no reason to do anything about those (apart from deleting the spam edit of course). They edit the wiki once, and then never use that IP ever again, so blocking is a waste of time.Narve (talk) 08:59, January 21, 2018 (UTC)

HP redirectEdit

Hey Narve, I noticed that you previously deleted a redirect page HP for Hit points. While I'm against using abbreviations and community slang, I think it might be useful in the (admittedly unlikely) scenario that someone unfamiliar with the term might search for it or as quick link when cited directly from official scources (such as patch notes) Blappp (talk) 13:11, February 20, 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, that was years ago, and I can't remember why I deleted it now. I've restored the redirect.Narve (talk) 06:37, February 21, 2018 (UTC)

Look Narve, change the stronghold page back, I know what I'm talking about and I've done the maths correctly. I understand that a 20% reduced attack time would be a 25% attack speed increase (1/0.8=1.25), but it is not a 20% reduced attack time. It is a 16.66666% reduced attack time, 1/0.833333=1.2, this tooltip, unlike all of the others, is correct so just deal with it.

Test: Celtic Castle fully upgraded post imperial vs Frank post imperial castle, all the same bonuses except the racial "20%". Time to kill a 3rd civ building (I think I used a barracks, whatever it was the same for both): Celt: 2m24s, Frank: 2m52s = 144s vs 172s.

144/172 = 0.8333 = 6 attacks for every 5. You tell me how you can interpret that as a 25% attack speed increase.

You know what, go ahead and leave it incorrect, I don't care anymore, stuff your site.

I asked you all to discuss it in the comments or the forum, instead of edit warring. That's why I protected the page - I don't care one way or the other.Narve (talk) 04:25, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

You're testing with a castle, right? I assume the problem is something to do with how the castle fires multiple arrows.

In the game files, the bonus is a 20% reduced attack reload time. So it should be a 25% faster attack speed. And it should work this way with a tower. Try it with towers and see if it gives similar results. Tocaraca (talk) 14:09, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

I have asked you all to have this discussion "in the comments or the forum". Please note that my talk page is neither of those places.Narve (talk) 14:18, March 2, 2018 (UTC)

Forum Migration to DiscussionsEdit

Hey there Narve, my name is Doug from FANDOM's Community Development Team. With Age of Empires: Definitive Edition released recently, I wanted to stop in and gauge you and the community's interest in migrating the forums to our new Discussions module.

Discussions support desktop and mobile posts, feature an upvote system, and support multiple boards of different topics. They are also tied into our Community Apps, which can help bring in more community engagement and potential wiki editors. Here is an example of the DC Wiki's Discussions.

I can handle all enabling on my end with no additional work on yours. Let me know if this is something that sounds beneficial to you and the community. Let me know if you have any questions, thank you! TheBlueRogue @fandom •(profile)•(talk)•(

I'll start a discussion about it later and get some community input.Narve (talk) 20:50, March 8, 2018 (UTC)

Age of Empires old scenario campaignsEdit

For scenarios that have been very reworked I have been creating new pages, but we should create new ones for the scenarios that have had small and no changes at all? I think that all the scenarios have their history rewrote, new names for enemies, new maps for instructions, and so...

I really don't have the game, I'm doing the work with Youtube videos, so sorry if I left something half done because the streamer didn't show all the history or the hints...

Cheers Av93 (talk) 21:11, March 9, 2018 (UTC)

Scenarios with small or no changes should not get new pages, no. We can just add a changelog to the page explaining what is different.Narve (talk) 04:59, March 9, 2018 (UTC)

Udapted scenariosEdit

I propose this mockup for the udapted scenarios that hadn't have a rework or aren't new: see Caesr's Revenge with the "Original mission" header

Av93 (talk) 21:11, March 9, 2018 (UTC)

That's good, but I've made some changes. People looking for the scenario description should find it under "Scenario description", not "changes" (also, Voices of Babylon is from the original game, not The Rise of Rome). But good work!Narve (talk) 09:33, March 10, 2018 (UTC)

Yes, you're right about Voices, I did a copy paste, and didn't thought about it.

BTW, would be nice to use swapping for the infobox of scenarios, but also scenario instructions and historical outcome, it would look cleaner. Is something possible like Condottiero icon swapping? Av93 (talk) 14:04, March 11, 2018 (UTC)

I see you've figured out how to use the "tabber" function. It looks much better now!Narve (talk) 20:20, March 11, 2018 (UTC)

Capitalization Edit

Why would you capitalize an object, etc? It's done so in the title. It's wrong to type, "I have a Pen and Paper". If it was discussing a named ship it would be appropriate. I was correcting my own edits from years ago. TheRealMictlantecuhtli (talk) 00:04, March 14, 2018 (UTC)

According to the Manual of Style, "All characters, units, buildings, and technologies are considered proper nouns and are always capitalized, even if they describe a generic object."Narve (talk) 08:18, March 14, 2018 (UTC)

Tabber in InfoboxEdit

Looking into Condottiero infobox, I see that "tabber" function works in individual content, but I can't manage to make a tabber of all infobox table. I think that I would be cool and clean to put tabber in all mission, units and civilization infobox for a fast and well organized information between Definitive Edition and Original, but I can't make it work.

Av93 (talk) 15:03, March 15, 2018 (UTC)

It's not hard to put a tabber around a whole page - you create the tabber, place one version of the page in one tab, and the other version in the other. Is there a page where you've tried to do this?Narve (talk) 17:53, March 15, 2018 (UTC)
I'm not referring to a page, but to a infobox. If you look into the Babylon campaign, you will see that I have succed with it, but I can't make it with the infobox. I don't want to make a tabber row by row.

Av93 (talk) 13:03, March 17, 2018 (UTC)

You need to include the start of the infobox in the tabber section - the {{units Infobox (Age of Empires) bit.

Can't achieve it. Could you send me a template for the Short Swordman? (or do it in the wikia, I would udapte it then myself later on.

Av93 (talk) 14:15, March 19, 2018 (UTC)

I've created tabbers for the page now.Narve (talk) 19:28, March 19, 2018 (UTC)
