Red links for brand new content/articles[]

Hi Narve,

Was wondering if we can put a hold on linking every possible connection for new content until the relevant (and substantiated) article is created. The list of Age IV civs on the main article and nav template come to mind. At the moment, all we're seeing are spam creations coming from IP address users (especially on mobile) when they try and follow through on red links, plus some repeat offenders too. Must be an annoying waste of time trying to clean up after them at the moment and that will only elevate with new information of the three upcoming releases coming to light. Regards, DunBanner talk page 05:00, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

I think we should keep the link - people are more likely to create the proper articles if we have dead links pointing to them. If there is excessive vandalism, we can just protect the articles, since most vandals are IPs (and most people who create proper articles are registered users).Narve (talk) 17:06, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

E-mail notifications about comments under a certain article[]

Is there a way to get e-mail notifications about any new comments under a certain article? I would like to get notification about comments under dialogue lines articles but couldn't find how to do it. Red Khan (talk) 10:00, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

I have no idea.Narve (talk) 19:38, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Age of Empires 4[]

Hi, what's the difference between the deluxe version and the standard one? Also, are u gonna buy it? It's really expensive tho.

Yoyopog (talk) 10:28, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

According to the Steam page, the Deluxe Edition includes the soundtrack, a Unit Counters chart, an art compilation, and some in-game content including a Coat of Arms, Player Profile portrait, and Monument. The only part of this that sounds even vaguely interesting is the counter chart, so I will be buying the regular version.Narve (talk) 19:38, 19 June 2021 (UTC)

Most appropriate name for the article[]

Hi! Wouldn't the most appropriate name for this article https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/United_States_Home_City_Cards_(campaign) be "United States (campaign) Home City Cards", since the civilization has been renamed to United States (campaign)? RkyRC (talk) 18:08, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

That's not a question for my talk page. Ask in the article's comments.Narve (talk) 16:28, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

FandomDesktop readiness[]

Hey Narve, I'm reaching out to ask you if you feel that the Age of Empires Wiki is all set and ready to go for FandomDesktop's rollout. We're trying to gauge which wikis are ready for a stress test, and from the looks of things, DunBanner did well with the theme import and most things look more or less all set. If you don't have any critical issues, you can go ahead to https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Special:ReadyForFandomDesktop?useskin=fandomdesktop and click the "Mark As Ready" button; if you do have issues, please do let me know and I can try to help out! SlyCooperFan1 (talk) 02:05, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

I have no idea - I have not tested FandomDesktop.Narve (talk) 16:28, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
One issue I've noticed with the FandomDesktop is with editing sections instead of the entire page: the edit source option doesn't appear and if I click to edit on a section, it still shows the whole article. Joaosantos92 (talk) 11:50, 3 August 2021 (UTC)

CSS Access[]

Yeah, am I able to prove myself enough to gain access to the main CSS? I'm extremely capable with CSS, and I can prove it with this: https://songsofsyx.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

I bring this up because there are amazing fixes I can bring to the site. -- XZippy (talk) 01:34, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Uh... like what? SlyCooperFan1 (talk) 03:11, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
For starters, there seems to be an annoying issue with how images keep misaligning themselves. Especially on other browsers. I've already shown Narve the changes I wanted to make to improve the wiki, though I don't know if he remembers them. You can look at the custom CSS on my page for a good idea. -- XZippy (talk) 15:58, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
You're going to have to be more specific: what images are misaligning? On what pages? In what browsers?
As for the changes you brought up to Narve, the only thing I found in the talk page archives was User talk:Narve/Archive 11#New CSS Proposal where the changes were the link color to red (which is not good because it confuses with pages that are not yet created), the cursor icon (not allowed), and the header gradients, which Narve didn't even have a strong opinion on and doesn't really match the games that much.
Personally, as a massive fan of Age of Empires, I'd prefer to wait for AoE IV to release so we can get more of its assets and colors and menu styles and update the wiki to match them. I do plan on helping out, since it's part of my duties as a Fandom Wiki Representative. The only way that you can get access to the wiki's CSS is by being promoted to an administrator, and that comes with a lot more access than just the CSS so that's why I'm curious about what you want to change, since you're not an admin and we can just make any CSS changes for you as long as they make sense. SlyCooperFan1 (talk) 17:00, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
I was already aware of what he said about my CSS proposals of the past. The link colors could still be changed, but still remain the same general colors. Anything to make a wiki look less generic without breaking the theme of what it represents. I'm not understanding the statement about my header gradients not matching the game very well. I mean I 'kind of' get it, but the gradients NOT being there doesn't make the headers look that much more fitting game wise. I suggested that because it made the headers stand out better without just being a generic header. -- XZippy (talk) 02:40, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Request to delete page[]

I'm sorry, I made an error while copy-pasting and accidentally created a category Category:Category:Unit dialogue (Age of Empires III)|Category:Unit dialogue (Age of Empires III). Can you please delete it? Sorry for the inconvenience. Red Khan (talk) 19:12, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Age of Empires 4 Closed Beta[]

Is it still possible to join even though it's not August 3 anymore?

Yoyopog (talk) 11:26, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

I have no idea. This is a wiki, we have no control over that.Narve (talk) 13:03, 6 August 2021 (UTC)

Oh ok . . . Btw did u join it? I did'nt because the time had passed and I was too late because I had'nt checked the official website.

Yoyopog (talk) 05:38, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

No, I have no interest in being someone's unpaid tester.Narve (talk) 08:39, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Ok, but don't u at least want to try the game? It looks fun, i'm even jealous just looking at it in Youtube.

Yoyopog (talk) 05:43, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

No, I have no interest in playing an unfinished, buggy mess. Once it's out of beta, I'll take a look.Narve (talk) 09:24, 8 August 2021 (UTC)

U have a point. I wonder if Age of Empires 4 still has the thing that same units are in every civilization, aside from unique units, just like Age of EMpires 2. Yoyopog (talk) 12:19, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

Icons for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition expansions[]

Hi! Could you make icons for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition expansions using these two images? Preferably name them as {{AoE2Icon|Lords}} and {{AoE2Icon|Dukes}}, respectively. https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/File:AoE2Icon-LordsWest.png https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/File:Dawn_of_the_Dukes_icon.png

RkyRC (talk) 22:13, 13 August 2021 (UTC)

Renaming files[]

I want to change the file names to be more inline with the naming convention

  • File:Aoe3_rhinodeath.ogg -> Rhinoceros Death AoE3.ogg
  • File:Aoe3 rhinogrunt1.ogg -> Rhinoceros Grunt 1 AoE3.ogg
  • File:Aoe3 rhinogrunt2.ogg -> Rhinoceros Grunt 2 AoE3.ogg
  • File:Aoe3 rhinomove.ogg -> Rhinoceros Move AoE3.ogg
  • File:Aoe3 rhinoselect.ogg -> Rhinoceros Select AoE3.ogg

but can't. It says that "The title is the same; cannot move a page over itself. A page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. Please choose another name." But there is no page with such a name. Am I doing something wrong? Red Khan (talk) 14:55, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Moved now.Narve (talk) 20:58, 14 August 2021 (UTC)

Template table still using orange/yellow background color (forced color in the page source code), doesnt blend well with dark theme[]

Hi, Narve

so with the implementation of official dark mode in wiki, these table are still using forced background coloring in their code, which doesnt sit well with dark mode (those light color stands out from the rest of the dark mode page, kinda blinding)

https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Template:Units_List_(Age_of_Empires_II)

so it is okay to remove the forced yellow/orange coloring in the source code? to make them mesh well with the wiki dark mode?

Thank you

Somalis - Somalians[]

Since the minor civ's page is renamed from Somalians to Somalis and is now different from the page for scenario civ maybe we can rename the page for the minor civ just "Somalis" and for the scenario civ just "Somalians" since the text in the parenthesis is excessive now? Red Khan (talk) 20:32, 18 August 2021 (UTC)

Good idea! I'll do that.Narve (talk) 16:31, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

‘Players’[]

I was saying ‘players’ in order to avoid the singular ‘they’, as I know some people who find that mildly irritating, but I noticed your modifications and I’ll stick to that word choice from now on. Sorry that I caused some trouble. By the way, I found a little oversight here. —(((Rottweiler))) (Woof? Ruff!) 12:50, 20 August 2021 (UTC)

We tend to use singular "Player" in scenario articles, since there's only one human player. Thanks for fixing my typo.Narve (talk) 06:32, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Missing from MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation[]

More readable colors for DarkTheme[]

Hi,

I was using the AoE 3 Units page with the Dark Theme. The section where describes all Home City Cards bonuses are unreadable because of the light green background So a changed it but my changes are reverted by the NarveBot I wasen't notice there is a non darkTheme until that, sorry

The problem is, with the actual green the darktheme is unreadable. With my changes the normal theme are almost unreadable. Any way we could find a solution? Maybe set a static font color who not change with the theme And of coarse i need some help to edit all unit pages at once. By the way your bot is amazing :D

Heres my edit (Now i can see the bonuses on DarkMode) https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Yumi_Archer?diff=337370&oldid=327007

That wasn't a bot edit, it was an edit with my regular account. You're right, we need a color that fits both dark mode and normal mode, but I don't have a good suggestion. Ideally, we should start a community discussion and look for feedback, but those don't get much participation these days. Could you see if you find a good suggestion (maybe through trial and error), and I can implement it with my bot?Narve (talk) 06:31, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Contributing to the AoE3de fandom pages[]

Narve, as you seem to be online very frequently I want to ask a question regarding uploading new icons and portraits of the new expansion: African Royals. In the last few days I have started to get familiar with the mechanics of Fandom and also figured out where to get the images from and even used one. Yet I seem to struggle finding the African Royals images, for example the Watch tower and other buildings and also units. Why are these images not shown in the list? sorry if this is a question which might be obvious for an expert, but I have only just started and I would like to make some contributions to the fandom as I really enjoy using it myself. I appreciate any advice or pointers you could give me. For example: if there is a way to extract these images in a different way not using dragonunPACKer. I look forward to hearing from you. HeerDerHeren (talk)

What list are you talking about? If they are not available here, it's because no one has uploaded the image yet. I have no idea how to extract them from the game.Narve (talk) 17:15, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Blog posts[]

Hi, I just created a blog post and I saw in RC that commenting was automatically locked for sysops only, why is that? Best, Felixrr (talk) 17:54, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

At the bottom of the window, is there a "Commenting" checkbox, next to the "This is a minor edit" and "Watch this page" checkboxes? If so, it must be checked. I have done that now.Narve (talk) 18:33, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

Xbox Games Studios footer on main page[]

Hello Narve,

I am an admin from the Xbox Wiki and recently I have been working on creating an Xbox Game Studios footer, with the goal of having it include links to the wikis of as many games that are published under the Xbox Games Studios brand as possible. Because the Age of Empires series is published by XGS and previously Microsoft Studios, and you are an administrator on this wiki, I would like to ask you whether or not you would like to have this footer displayed on your wikis main page. It could be placed above or below the strategy games footer already present on the wikis main page. I have decided to do this as it would help people discover different wikis and hopefully bring new users to each community. Here is a link to what the template currently looks like, I would appreciate any feedback regarding the design of it and will try and improve it based on the feedback I receive. To add the footer to your wikis main page all you need to do is add {{w:XboxWikisFooter}} where you would like the template displayed. I am currently in the process of contacting admins from all of the other wikis listed on the footer, so if you have any questions about this please let me know as soon as you can.

Thank you for reading this message, DirtLover03 (talk)

Hello. Sorry it took so long to respond. The link to the template doesn't lead anywhere. I would be in favour of such a navbox, but I would prefer to see what it looks like first.Narve (talk) 15:01, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

Sorry about that. Here is a link to the template on Community Central. If you have any feedback on how to improve it just let me know and I will look into it. DirtLover03 (talk)

The link still leads to a "There is currently no text in this page" page.Narve (talk) 06:17, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

My mistake. Here is the URL to the template page on Community Central; https://community.fandom.com/wiki/Template:XboxWikisFooter DirtLover03 (talk)

That looks good. I see no reason why it can't be placed on the main page.Narve (talk) 05:21, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your feedback. I cannot add the template to the mainpage myself as it is locked. So if you would be able to do this it would be much appreciated. All you need to do is add {{w:XboxWikisFooter}} where you would like the footer. I would recommend placing it above or below the strategy games footer which is already present on the main page. Unlocking the page United States/Strategy[]

Hi, I understand your reasoning for wiping the page at https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/United_States/Strategy because of the zero effort contribution, but is it possible for it to be now unlocked? I've written a simplified page to put in place to provide basic advice to readers.

Request page move[]

I'm writing some posts on my user profile, ideas for new civilisation mods or suggestions, that type of thing. A person in my Talk suggested I move them to blogs, as they would be able to be commented on, so I did that. However, during the move I moved them accidentally to Blog Listing pages, and I can't move them back. Two of my custom civilisation ideas are affected. https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Blog:BriocheWindows/Danes, and https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/Blog:BriocheWindows/Saxons. I didn't make this mistake with the Irish civilisation, which it's supposed to be like. https://ageofempires.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:BriocheWindows/Irish.

I should have moved them to User Blog, which I was having trouble with sometimes. I came to you since you were the most recently active person with the power to make these changes. BriocheWindows (talk) 21:58, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Saracen team bonus[]

Hi! The information that was changed on the pages Update 44725, Archer (Age of Empires II), Crossbowman (Age of Empires II), and Arbalester regarding the Saracen team bonus was correct. The Advanced Genie Editor says the bonus is +3 and my scenario editor tests confirm it. Also, old versions (before the update) of the Saracens page said that it was +2 (with a note saying that the tech tree incorrectly stated it was +1). So the actual change was from +2 to +3 and not from +1 to +2. Joaosantos92 (talk) 20:07, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

It's me again. I still have some of my civilisation ideas stuck on User pages instead of User Blog pages, and for some reason get permission errors when I try to move them.
