Notifications Edit

Hiya, I am re-discovering AoEII all over just because. I was wondering is there a shortcut, (F2 or something), way to clear the notifications that pop-up ie: -Knight created- as it is superimposed over the requirements for a unit creation? 2001:8003:5C34:FD00:C46F:319:D974:17FE 02:11, May 5, 2019 (UTC)

Help
Hi! Actually, I know of no way to clear the notifications once they're there. However, you can turn them off so they won't appear in the first place. Just click the help button next to the mini map (red arrow). MasterBroccoli (talk) 19:42, May 5, 2019 (UTC)

Template problem Edit

Hi MasterBrocolli,

I created a template for campaign only heroes in Age of Empires III, I used the Age of Empires Heroes template as a foundation work and copyed it off to make my template, the issue is my template looks incomplete and messed up. I want my template to look like this one below, but mine looks messy, do you know how to fix it? Radhe Mohan 03:52, May 15, 2019 (UTC)

There was a square end bracket missing after "Amelia Black". I've added it now.Narve (talk) 16:27, May 15, 2019 (UTC)

Stopping By Edit

Congrats on your Bureaucrat promotion! I'd like you to undo these changes since the polls are likely to be outdated now and would like to feature the original main page polls again. If you have time, I'd like you to consider these individuals for a possible promotion to moderator status, since several have been inactive and believe that updating our staff members a top priority. I think all of them are great candidates, with UnofficialGameExpert78 #1, Nikitazero #2 and RadheMohan69 #3 on eventual promotion to Admin/Sysop this year on my list. What do you think? Thanks in advance and look forward to your input.

I'm not very active, due to being really bad at AoEII, but I'm still interested in it, and could definitely become more active. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 00:25, June 30, 2019 (UTC)
Hi and welcome back! I changed the main page as you requested. As for your candidates, I think you picked well. Still, I'd like them to apply, because I do not know if they actually want another status, and I want to give everyone a chance to voice objections. MasterBroccoli (talk) 11:17, July 1, 2019 (UTC)
I would not mind someone applying for admin status for me. I would not feel right applying myself, because it might be misinterpreted as feeling I am good enough to be an admin. I want other people to see that for themselves. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 12:46, July 1, 2019 (UTC)
Alright. I filled in an application for you. MasterBroccoli (talk) 14:52, July 4, 2019 (UTC)

Fishing Ship Armor Class Edit

Looking at game data, i noticed that the Ship Armor Class has been split into Fishing Ship (c34) and others (usual c16). Don't know if it's worth mentioning like the condottiero armor class cause i've yet to notice any difference, since all units with an attack bonus against c16 have the same amount replicated for c34 and no unit has a bonus for only one of those.

Caledor92 (talk) 23:20, August 7, 2019 (UTC)

Since there seems to be no difference whatsoever (for the gameplay), I think leaving the classes the way they are is okay. Still, it makes me wonder why that change was made. I cannot make out any change the new class may bring so far. However, it is an interesting point of trivia which I haven't noticed, thanks for pointing it out. MasterBroccoli (talk) 08:04, August 10, 2019 (UTC)

The patch 5.8 description states "Fire Galleys now do 1 damage to Fishing Ships instead of 3. So that's what I listed when I created the Fishing Ship Armor class...Felixrr (talk) 12:38, August 25, 2019 (UTC)

Age of Empires Online redirect Edit

Hello, I've noticed that the redirect on Age of Empires Online appears to be broken. I believe I know how to fix it to redirect it to the main page of the Age of Empires Online Wiki, but before doing so drafted a basic page for the game on My Sandbox. The drafted page contains a header stating that the game has its own in-depth wiki with an interwiki link. Personally I feel that since it is a part of this series, it should be represented on this wiki with at least a page on the game itself, but wanted to ask a Bureaucrat on what to do.  HotNISMO  Talk  Edits  Following  02:33,8/11/2019  02:33, August 11, 2019 (UTC)

Hi! Personally, I am fine with the change you intend and agree with your idea behind it. Why don't you edit the page (so it looks like your sandbox) and ask there in the comment section if someone disagrees with the both of us? In any case, thanks for considering my opinion. MasterBroccoli (talk) 11:39, August 11, 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for hearing out my opinion and advising me on what to do! I have now edited the page and asked in the comments if there is anyone who disagrees.  HotNISMO  Talk  Edits  Following  19:05,8/11/2019  19:05, August 11, 2019 (UTC)

Image deletionEdit

Be careful when mass deleting unused images. Some images are used by the wiki, but since they don't appear in any articles, are listed as unused. It looks like you've already deleted the wiki's Favicon accidentally.
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 23:23, August 18, 2019 (UTC)

I restored another image that I assume you had not intended to delete. I might suggest that you add a gallery to Category:Non-article images that contains Favicon.ico, Wiki-background, and Community-header-background so that they are not classified as "unused" and accidentally deleted again in the future. If you add a header image to Special:Community, then Community-Page-Header.jpg could also be put into the gallery.
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 20:47, September 17, 2019 (UTC)

Image names Edit

At one point, we should rename some images as well. We have files called "ElephantArcherIcon.jpg", "Elephant Archer.gif", and "Elephant archer.jpg", despite the fact that we have two units called Elephant Archer in the series. Every image file should include in the file name which series it comes from, though we should discuss how to phrase it (AoEII? AoE2? Something else?)Narve (talk) 07:10, August 24, 2019 (UTC)

I think that's a good idea, although I feel it brings a lot of work, as every change in name makes changes in the respective articles necessary. Sure, a bot can do these changes, but still, every name change requires a bot run (at least for high-usage images). As for the naming, I think prefer the suffixes aoe1, aoe2, aoe3, and aom. However, this should, in the long run, then be applied to ALL images we use here. By the way, thanks for helping out with the image deletion, I really appreciate it! MasterBroccoli (talk) 11:17, August 25, 2019 (UTC)

AoE3 Civilizations Flags and some request Edit

I've just add smaller versions of civilization flags to the AoE3Icon template for use in infoboxes. It might be helpful if those were to be added to the respective civilizations' unique units and buildings' infoboxes. Also, if possible, can you please change the wording on AoE3 units' and buildings' Further statistics and Home City Cards to the following? I'll do on some as I made improvements on the Asian units and buildings' pages.

  • For unique units' Further statistics/Home City Cards:
"As the [unit/building] is unique to the [civilization/culture], only (technologies available to them that/other civilizations' TEAM cards that affect them) are shown in the following table(s).
  • For unique units with TEAM shipment cards' Further statistics/Home City Cards:
"As the [unit/building] can only be trained by the [civilization/culture], only (technologies available to other civilizations/other civilizations' non-TEAM cards) that affect them in other than training cost and time are shown in the following table(s)."

Furthermore, I've tried to add XP into the Resources template, but can't get it to be displayed properly for some reason, so can you look at it as well? Nikitazero (talk) 13:59, September 10, 2019 (UTC)

Hi! I added experience to the template, it seems to be working. The color is grey for the resource, I don't know if that's fitting; feel free to change if it isn't. I'll look into the other request in the next few days, I'm a little short on time today. MasterBroccoli (talk) 17:06, September 10, 2019 (UTC)
As there are basically three different changes, are there any analogies of the affected pages, ideally a category? E.g. all pages that require change 1 carry that category, and so forth? Or are the parts that need changing already different? MasterBroccoli (talk) 08:23, September 13, 2019 (UTC)
To put it simply, the changes are based on whether the unit is available to all or specific civilizations, or if the unit can be sent to allies through TEAM shipments but otherwise can only be trained by the civilization. There, I've altered the proposed changes to reflect that and makes it easily understandable. Nikitazero (talk) 10:26, September 13, 2019 (UTC)
Now there's a problem. If the targeted pages for a specific change have no unique analogies, it's quite some work to get that done as the pages have to be manually picked and given to the bot. I'll try to explain. Say, all pages of a specific category are required the same change. That's easy, give the bot the category, it finds the pages in it, and performs the required change on every page if possible. However, if only some of these pages need that change, and others must not be changed, the bot cannot know by itself, the user then has to individually decide if the bot should perform the action or not. I for my part do not know much about the game so I should not be appointed this task. Also, it would take me a lot of time. MasterBroccoli (talk) 10:10, September 15, 2019 (UTC)
I see. Then I'll do it myself, so expect that the wiki activity section will be full with my changes for the time being. Nikitazero (talk) 10:18, September 15, 2019 (UTC)
I don't really understand the use of the change. First of all, I think the plural form is better here, e.g. 'As Spies are...' instead of 'As the Spy is...', but that's just my opinion. Also, why even add that notion? I think it is redundant, you should start a discussion about it before doing mass edits. MasterBroccoli (talk) 10:37, September 15, 2019 (UTC)
I'm the one who made those, though, and to be frank, I want to change them so they are the same with AoE2's Further statistics sections. I'll start a discussion about the Further statistics section in general later. Nikitazero (talk) 10:55, September 15, 2019 (UTC)

Resource template Edit

I've been thinking of adding a universal template for all resources (e.g. trees, mines, etc.) to simplify the editing, which is this one: Template:Infobox resource. I've been testing it on the Mango Grove page, and will do the same later on the Cherry Orchard page. What do you think abou it? Nikitazero (talk) 04:12, September 12, 2019 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. I'd even like to expand the use to wildlife, as I think the infobox we currently use there could use some improvement, anyway. MasterBroccoli (talk) 05:53, September 12, 2019 (UTC)
I don't like the background color of the lines, that light blue. It's from the unit infobox, I don't know why it's there, a light brick color would be nice there. However, I don't know how to change infobox themes. If anyone knows, please reply here. MasterBroccoli (talk) 08:18, September 13, 2019 (UTC)
AFAIK you have to use the wiki's CSS to change infobox theme colors. Take a look on the Wikia.css page of the Mental Omega APYR Wiki made by me in case you're interested. Nikitazero (talk) 10:29, September 13, 2019 (UTC)
I just found the theme designer, however I seem to have problems there. I'll contact Tephra. MasterBroccoli (talk) 09:37, September 15, 2019 (UTC)

Tabview over tabber Edit

I've trying to change the use of tabview into tabbers in Consulate and Home City Cards for easier access especially on mobile devices, as had done on the Colonial Militia page. As such, I prefer the use of the former, but what are your opinions on this? Nikitazero (talk) 16:11, September 13, 2019 (UTC)

I created a blog about it and gave my opinion there. Please reply there. MasterBroccoli (talk) 09:12, September 15, 2019 (UTC)

Infobox themeEdit

Are the other infobox themes working correctly?
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 17:54, September 15, 2019 (UTC)

It seems so. I don't know about the 'heroes' theme, but we don't use that one, anyway. The others are working. MasterBroccoli (talk) 16:06, September 16, 2019 (UTC)
I didn't notice your reply here as I only get notifications when my own talk page is edited (this is an issue I've never had problem with before I started managing 67 wikis). I tried a couple of tests on the infobox, but saw that you had just recently edited it yourself. Were you able to fix it on your own? If not, could you explain the exact issue you are having with it and I will bring in an infobox expert to whip it into shape for you.
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 20:47, September 17, 2019 (UTC)
I asked infobox wizard, FishTank, and he noted that it is case-sensitive.
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 20:59, September 18, 2019 (UTC)

Character infobox Edit

I've been testing out the use of a universal infobox for characters, which is this one: Template:Infobox character. I've already applied them on Age of Empires III characters as well as Tokugawa Ieyasu, and are about to apply it on the rest. What do you think about it? Also, while I'm at it, can you please delete this page: Template:Infobox_unit/doc/Draft? I made a bit of mistake when editing the document and it was a leftover from that mistake. Nikitazero (talk) 06:35, September 16, 2019 (UTC)

I deleted the template. I've seen your infobox, I like it, I think you did good work there! However, what about another color? I think they should not share a color with units. MasterBroccoli (talk) 16:26, September 16, 2019 (UTC)
About the infobox's color, since it involves themes, guess I'll leave it to you to decide it. Nikitazero (talk) 16:37, September 16, 2019 (UTC) I've colored the character infobox with harvest gold color (tentative) and added theme designation for it and the resource infobox, but since infobox themes can only be configured through the wiki's CSS files, I'll leave it to you to create the themes for them. Nikitazero (talk) 07:09, September 17, 2019 (UTC)
I fixed the issue I was having with the label colors for the character infobox. Are you happy with the result? MasterBroccoli (talk) 07:17, September 29, 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, looks good now. Nikitazero 08:57, September 29, 2019 (UTC)

Changing the color and apply bold to my username Edit

How do I change the color and apply bold to my username in my signature? Ricky Robaina (talk) 15:10, September 25, 2019 (UTC)

You can customize your signature here. MasterBroccoli (talk) 15:45, September 25, 2019 (UTC)

Thank you! Ricky Robaina (talk) 15:55, September 25, 2019 (UTC)

I thought that functionality was reserved for mods and admins only. Am I mistaken? UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 16:10, September 25, 2019 (UTC)

Everybody is entitled to customize their signature. However, only admins get a customized link which shows their status when linked on pages or in edit summaries. (They are entered in the MediaWiki:Wikia.css, which only admins can edit.) MasterBroccoli (talk) 16:35, September 25, 2019 (UTC)

Infobox themesEdit

I guess my previous response got lost up there (or maybe I was too vague) so I'll start a new section. The themes are case-sensitive, so if the Theme.css says "character", the template can't say "Character".
◄► Tephra ◄► @fandom 19:41, September 25, 2019 (UTC)

Adding guidelines Edit

I've been thinking about this for a while, but should we add guidelines on how the content in AoE Wiki is to be organized? Take the content guidelines I and other admins of the Mental Omega APYR Wiki had made, for instance. There, how an article's layout should be set is already defined, thus there's no need for clarification on what's included, like what I previously done to the Further statistics and Home City Cards sections in AoE3-related units and buildings. What do you think? Nikitazero (talk) 07:27, September 26, 2019 (UTC)

We already have quite a few policies and guidelines already, although some are still missing. If you don't like anything in there or feel something is missing, please say so. MasterBroccoli (talk) 07:34, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
What is missing in my opinion is the layout of each article (e.g. what subpages and sections an article should have), as well as the criteria for content in each of these. Other than that, the wiki's policies and guidelines are good enough. Nikitazero (talk) 07:48, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
So you propose we have a blueprint for any kind of page? MasterBroccoli (talk) 08:19, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
That's right, but I leave the final decision to the admins. Take this as a reference, if needed: Mental Omega APYR Wiki article layout guideline Nikitazero 08:26, September 26, 2019 (UTC)
We already have an article organization with example there, however it is rather general. We can add more examples of articles that meet our expectations (e.g. one scenario, technology, map, etc.), but I would refrain from describing the structure of all different articles as this seems unnecessarily elaborate. MasterBroccoli (talk) 08:45, September 26, 2019 (UTC)

Should Balochistan be restored?Edit

I was just looking at a comment Balochistan made on the Rise of the Rajas page. It showed that he seemed to care about the voice of others, which is not consistent with the usual traits of blocked users. Blocked users are usually selfish, rude, and do not have anything useful to add to the wiki. Balochistan is none of these, as far as I can tell. He is impulsive, I'll admit, but that is not a good reason to block someone from a wiki. We must also consider the possibility that he was hacked, as there is a notable disparity between the Balochistan that commented, and the Balochistan that edited. People don't just shift behaviors on a dime like that.

With all that said, I think he should be restored. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 16:38, October 3, 2019 (UTC)

Hi there! Frankly, I don't know where this is coming from, but I would like to bring your attention to the discussion that took place when his behavior was discussed. Still, if you wish the matter to be discussed, I recommend you create a blog post as my talk page is not the place to discuss that. I cannot make decisions such as this. MasterBroccoli (talk) 16:57, October 3, 2019 (UTC)

Regarding Rocket PageEdit

Hi Master Brocolli. I am aware that one of the users disagreed on the changes I made in the Rocket page. I would like to inform you that I am simply trying to make the wikia uniformed, as there are other AoE 3 units which include campaign exclusive (Uhlan, Lancer) inlcude John Black's Mercenaries and Knights of St. John, both of which are campaign exclusive cilvilizations, same as United States, which I am adding to Rocket. I am not sure why the other user disagrees to add US as a civ which the rocket is available to. Either we need to remove John Black's Mercenaries , or Knights of St John from the aforementioned units, or retain US on Rocket.

In my opinion, we can simply retain John Black's Mercenaries and Knights of St. John on the aforementioed units and add US on Rocket, to give precise information on civilizations who can actually train the unit(s). Also, these campaign exclusive civilizations are originally made, not fan-made, so I think there is no reason not to include them.

I will wait for you feedback before making any changes again. Thanks.

-Orangecat15

Hi! As I stated in the comment on my edit, my undoing edit there was more of an AFAIK thing. I thought we handled these pages the way the Rocket page was before your edit. As another user seemed to also think so, I thought a discussion was in order. However, my assumption there was obviously wrong, and you just established consistency as other pages use "your" format already. This does not put you, but the other user in the position to start a discussion is this regard if they want to keep this information out of these pages. That being said, sorry for the trouble, I undid my edit and the page is now the way you left it a couple of days ago. MasterBroccoli (talk) 05:31, October 27, 2019 (UTC)
By the way, you can easily sign your comments by using four tildes (~~~~). That way, you don't have to type your name. Alternatively, you can only use three to just show your name without the time. MasterBroccoli (talk) 05:35, October 27, 2019 (UTC)

Hi MasterBroccoli. Thanks for considering my feedback! No worries, I understand that you are trying to make the wiki as precise and as consistent as possible, and you are simply considering every user's opinion. I may not be as active as the other users, but I visit the wiki from time to time (at least once a week), to contribute what I can. In case you find something incorrect on the changes I make, feel free to comment. Also, I did no pay much attention on the hint on the wiki to sign my post. Thanks for the hint.

AoE2 DE Bulgarians Edit

Just now I've watched a SoTL video showing the Bulgarians' gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRNQb0Z7Z3Q. Should we made its page in advance, since as AoE2 DE is only one week away from release anyway, the information is most likely will remain as it is? (with a little adjustment if some element was changed) Nikitazero 16:56, November 7, 2019 (UTC)

Well, recent events rendered that question moot, but I don't think the pages hurt anyone as long as they're marked as upcoming, which they all are. A lot is still missing, but the new pages are already in pretty good shape, great work, thanks! MasterBroccoli (talk) 15:34, November 8, 2019 (UTC)
Well, we know the civ bonuses and unique units for all the new civs thanks to YouTubers with the beta. As long as we make it clear that the values are subject to change, something like what the SmashWiki does, we're in business. UnofficialGameExpert78 (talk) 17:05, November 8, 2019 (UTC)

Can you explain how these names would be better? I cannot see the gain of the name change. On a related note: Please stop changing icons of existing pages (like you did here). There is no consensus for using the new icons, and also we intend to change all icons of existing pages with bots as we pointed out numerous times, so, again, please stop making such edits.
