| This article is about the unique units in Chronicles. For the armor class, see Armor class: Unique unit. For unique units in other games, see unique unit. |
A unique unit is a unit only available to a single civilization in Chronicles. As in the Age of Empires II base game, they are shown in the color deep violet in the technology tree.
Overview[]
Each civilization in the game has one unique unit that can be trained in the Fort from the Classical Age. These can be called Fort unique units.
Fort unique units share a common weakness in the requirement of a Fort to be produced. This means that, especially in the Classical Age, it is much harder to create a group of unique units compared to a group of units not trained in a Fort. Unique units generally have the unique unit armor class.
The Spartan Polemarch behaves very differently from a traditional unique unit:
- It cannot be produced en masse.
- It is available in the Civic Age.
- It is available at the Town Center, whereas regular unique units are available at military buildings.
- It does not have an Elite upgrade - it gets stat buffs for free upon reaching the next Ages.
- It is free.
- It is classified as a hero.
Like other unique units, it has the following similarities:
- It is stated to be a unique unit in the civilization card.
- Its icon appears as purple in the technology tree.
- It has the unique unit armor class.
- It is available to only one civilization.
Due to the small number of civilizations, there are also several units that are only available to a single civilization in Chronicles, but are not considered unique units, namely the Gastraphetoros (equivalent of the Hand Cannoneer only available to the Athenians), the Siege Ballista (equivalent of the Bombard Cannon only available to the Macedonians), and the War Chariot and Armored Elephant lines (regional units only available to the Achaemenids and Puru, respectively).
List of unique units[]
Overall, there are three non-hero unique units:
- 2 archers (including the ranged Immortal)
- 6 infantry (including the melee Immortal and Polemarch)
- 2 cavalry
- 1 hero
The following list contains all unique units sorted by expansions. It can also be sorted by their civilization, type, and building(s) as need be. In addition, a small speciality/description is provided.
| Civilization | Unique unit | Type | Trained at | Description/Speciality |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light infantry/foot archer | Fort | Can switch between melee and ranged modes | ||
| Infantry | Fort | Heavily-armed, increases attack of nearby units | ||
| Heavy infantry | Fort | Archer-resistant, durable | ||
| Heavy infantry hero | Town Center | Free, limited, aura buff, multiple upgrades | ||
| Heavy cavalry | Fort | Anti-unique unit | ||
| Heavy infantry | Barracks | Long reach, minimum range, anti-cavalry | ||
| Light infantry | Fort | Anti-cavalry and anti-building | ||
| Archer | Fort | Heavily-armed | ||
| Heavy cavalry | Stable | Durable |
In context of the above:
- Light units have better speed, but lower hit points, armor, and attack compared to their heavy counterparts.
- Durable units have more hit points.
- Heavily-armed means more melee attack.
- Heavily-armored means more melee armor.
- Archer-resistant means more pierce armor.
Trivia[]
- The Strategos and the Hippeus are the only unique units that have their civilization crest on their shield.
- All civilizations introduced in Battle for Greece have an infantry unique unit trained at the Fort, although the Achaemenid Immortal can also toggle to become an archer unit after training.
