Further statistics[]
God bonuses[]
Susanoo: -25% ability recharge time. Generates Bushidō XP passively at a rate of 1 per second, and also in combat.
The Umibōzu's Sudden Appearance ability allows it to raid behind enemy lines, reinforce an ongoing attack, or retreat when needed, which helps to compensate for its slow movement speed. The ability uses water as a portal, and cannot be used on land, or on water the player does not have Line of Sight over. Its Area of Effect and high crush damage make it a powerful threat to ships and buildings, and is also effective against human soldiers and other myth units, especially Rock Giants. For its cost, it provides significant combat value both on land and water.
While the Umibōzus' ability is on cooldown, players can garrison them in transports like arrow ships or Transport Ships to move about faster. If the transport is destroyed even if on water, any Umibōzus that were inside also instantly die.
While the Umibōzu has great armor and a large hit point pool, it is also incredibly slow, making it vulnerable to heroes, its main counter. It is also easily defeated by swarms of faster myth units like the Kamaitachi, Anubite, and Yazi, the last two of which can easily close the gap and strike first with their special abilities. Furthermore, myth units like the Medusa, Frost Giant, and Lampades should be avoided, as they can temporarily put the Umibōzu out of action or even turn it against its allies.

Mythology[]
“
Scientific name – Magnaniger maris globus Size – Immeasurable Diet – unlucky sailors
A mysterious aquatic giant, the Umibōzu is a calamitous presence that haunts the seas and attacks ships. Most Umibōzu sightings begin on a calm night – then, out of nowhere, the waves begin to crash and the wind starts to blow. To the horror of Japanese sailors, the Umibōzu rises from the sea; however, due to its enormous size, they have only ever seen its head.
The Umibōzu will then sink the ship unless the sailors offer it a bottomless barrel. The creature tries to fill the barrel and use it to sink the ship but cannot understand why the barrel never fills. Amidst the Umibōzu’s confusion, the sailors have a chance to escape.
According to legend, the Umibōzu is the vengeful spirit of a drowned monk, now haunting the same villagers who once sacrificed monks to the sea.

Trivia[]
The Umibōzu's appearance seems to be influenced by depictions of the Daidarabotchi (大座法師), another legendary creature from Japanese folklore that was said to be able to blend into the night sky.
Its in-game Latin scientific name translates to "great black sea globe".
The Umibōzu is the first fully-bipedal Dock myth unit.
