Strategy[]
Ullr focuses on defenses and Longhouse units. Longhouse units are made faster with Servants of Glory, which grants them a small permanent boost to their movement speed and allows them to passively gain a short burst of speed after standing idle. This makes them useful for quickly rushing to defend a town or group of worker units in the event of a raid. His god power, Asgardian Bastion, allows the player to place down a Hill Fort-like fortification named the Asgardian Hill Fort, which also has two technologies associated with it. First, Ring Oath reduces the favor cost of recasting Asgardian Bastion by 60%, making it easier to put down multiple Asgardian Hill Forts in a single match. Second, Ydalir allows both regular Hill Forts and their Asgardian version to train units and research technologies faster. Furthermore, it allows Portable Rams to be trained earlier in the Classical Age, allowing for an early-game siege rush.
Ullr's myth unit, the Draugr, is an undead archer that fires spectral arrows with piercing capabilities, allowing multiple enemy units in a line to be damaged in one hit. Its special ability spreads out four piercing arrows to hit more enemies at once. These traits make the Draugr useful for thinning out enemy armies from a distance, most especially when Draugar are massed. Once upgraded with Valgaldr, the Draugr becomes even stronger and gains even more range, allowing it to outrange most other ranged units.
Mythology[]
“ | Ullr was the son of Sif and the stepson of Thor. He was an incredible archer and skier; because of this, he was named god of the bow. Snorri Sturluson referred to him as the "ski-God", "bow-God", and "hunting-God". He resided in Ydalir (Yewdale), which logically follows, as bows were commonly made from yew in the Norse world. It is said that he had a beautiful appearance and was known for his battle prowess – this made him an ideal god to pray to before single combat. Because of his skills on skis, Ullr is also known as a god of winter. He is also associated with glory and oaths, with the Eddic poetry specifically mentioning his ring as an object to swear oaths by and upon." | ” |
