Tsar Konstantin is a cavalry hero unit in The Last Khans. As a hero, he cannot be converted and can regenerate health. When attacking, the unit deals trample damage.
He appears in the A Most Unlikely Man scenario from the Ivaylo campaign where the objective of the player (Ivaylo) is to kill the tsar.
History[]
Tsar Konstantin, or Konstantin Tih (Tikh/Tich) Asen (Bulgarian: Константин Тих Асен), was the tsar (emperor) of Bulgaria between 1257-1277. Konstantin had ruled Bulgaria for 20 years (1257-1277) which makes him the second most long-ruling tsar during 13th c. after Ivan -Asen II (1218-1241). His surname Tih (Bulgarian: Тих) translates literally as 'Silent'.
Trivia[]
- The unit's design resembles the Scythe Chariot from Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome.
- Tsar Konstantin had been seriously injured after a riding accident and could not move without assistance, because he was paralyzed from the waist down. For this reason, in-game he is depicted as a three horses-drawn chariot with him seated on a chair bolted on the chariot's floor.
- Tsar Konstantin is the first unit in Age of Empires II to use a chariot, the second being the Ratha, which means chariot. The Korean War Wagon is similar to a chariot, but wagons cannot be classified as such.
- The unit uses the icon of Khosrau rather than its own in the scenario A Most Unlikely Man.
- Colored versions of Tsar Konstantin's icons are used to represent the various chariot racing teams at the Amphitheatre in Komnenos.
