โ | Special trader that generates all resources when assigned to a Trade Post. Once assigned to a Trade Post, the caravan makes a single trip back to this Landmark to deposit the payload. The Treasure Caravan periodically respawns from the Trade Posts to make the journey once again. Converts into a land trader or naval trader automatically to reach Trade Posts. | โ |
—In-game description |
The Treasure Caravan is a civilian unit in Age of Empires IV created at neutral Trade Posts by activating the Treasure Caravans ability from the Castle of the Crow and casting it on the Trade Post. Unlike regular trade units such as the Trader, with whom it shares its unit model, the Treasure Caravan does not actually trade; instead, it brings in a one-time shipment of a significant amount of all resources (food, wood, gold, and stone) when it reaches the Castle of the Crow, after which it vanishes. It can travel over both land and water, transforming into a Trade Ship while traversing the latter.
Mechanic[]
The Treasure Caravan ability may be used at the Castle of the Crow immediately upon completion to target a neutral Trade Post, causing the Treasure Caravan to spawn at that Trade Post and travel to the Castle of the Crow. If this ability is not used actively, a Treasure Caravan will automatically spawn 30 seconds after the completion of the landmark at the nearest neutral Trade Post. Upon reaching the Castle of the Crow, the caravan deposits significant amounts of resources to the player's stockpile. The Caravan appears at the neutral Trade Post every 3 minutes (regardless of the time it takes to reach the landmark). The Trade Post at which the Caravan spawns can be changed at any time by reusing the ability on another Trade Post. The number of resources delivered by the Caravan are determined as follows:
- Food, wood, and gold: 120 resources + 13.33 * the number of tiles traveled.
- Stone: 40 resources +4.44 * the number of tiles traveled (1/3 the amount of other resources)
The number of resources caps out at 630 food, wood, and gold, and 210 stone. This means that the maximum number of resources can be obtained with a distance of less than 1/2 of the length of a 1 vs 1 map, unlike a regular Trader. The Treasure Caravan cannot be controlled once dispatched, which means, provided its path is not blocked, it will always take the same route from a given Trade Post back to the Castle of the Crow.

- The land variant of the Treasure Caravan looks identical to the Japanese Imperial Age Trader, while the naval variant looks like a larger version of the Trade Ship.
