| —In-game description | ||
The Torguud is a heavy melee cavalry unit in Age of Empires IV: Dynasties of the East unique to the Golden Horde. It can be created from the Golden Tent starting in the Feudal Age. Its statistics automatically improve with each Age.
Ability[]
Khan Guard (Passive) - While Batu Khan is within four tiles of a Torguud, any damage taken by him is redirected to the Torguud. A floating icon will be displayed above the Torguud that is taking damage for the Khan. The first Torguud that is within range will be initially selected, after which this Torguud will continue taking damage until it either dies or moves out of the four-tile range. At this point, the ability switches to the Torguud nearest to the Khan. The Torguud will also passively heal Batu Khan at the rate of 2.5 hit points every five seconds.
Battle Veteran (Passive, requires Sarai Lancers): The Torguud heals itself for four hit points for every attack performed. This includes torch attacks vs buildings.
Tactics[]
While the primary purpose of Torguuds is to protect the Khan, they are durable heavy cavalry units similar to Keshiks. They have lower damage, but more hit points, and more armor once upgraded. This allows them to function extremely well as front-line 'meat-shields' to absorb damage, while a ranged unit with higher damage per second (DPS), such as the Kipchak Archer, deals damage from behind.
Like almost all Golden Horde units, Torguuds can only be trained in batches. The base cost is 150 food, 200 stone for two units, which can be improved with a variety of upgrades. With all relevant upgrades, Torguuds can be recruited at a cost of 150 food, 80 stone for a batch of three.

- The Torguud were the royal guard of Toghrul, a Mongol khan allied with Genghis Khan. They fulfilled a role similar to the Keshiks, which is the basis for their in-game ability to protect Batu Khan.
