Tokhtamysh Khan (c. 1342โ1406) - a prominent khan of the Blue Horde, briefly unified the White Horde and Blue Horde subdivisions of the Golden Horde into a single state. He descended from Genghis Khan's grandson, Tuqa-Timur. He personally appears in Amir of Transoxiana (controlled by player B in the co-op mode) and briefly in Gurkhan of Persia, the first and second scenarios of the Tamerlane campaign. He's also the main enemy in the third scenario Harbinger of Destruction, although he doesn't appear personally. In the last scenario A Titan Amongst Mortals, it is revealed that he also happens to be the person who narrates the story about Tamerlane.
He reappears in Vytautas' Crusade, the fifth scenario of the Jadwiga campaign, as an ally of Vytautas in his conquest of Tatar Ruthenia. His son Jalal ad-din leads a mercenary group in the following scenario, The Fruits of Her Labor, and is a renamed Tokhtamysh.
In the Co-Op version of Bapheus, the second player starts with Orhan, a renamed Tokhtamysh.
Unit[]
The hero unit of Tokhtamysh Khan is based on a Keshik - the unique unit of the Tatars.
Trivia[]
- In 1397, Tokhtamysh and Vytautas signed a treaty which confirmed the latter as the rightful ruler of Ruthenian lands that were once part of the Golden Horde, and now belonged to Lithuania, in exchange for military assistance, which appeared in the fifth scenario of the Jadwiga campaign.
- In year 1406 AD, Tokhtamysh Khan died fighting against Edigu, also known as ฤฐdegรคy, one of Tamerlane's generals and founder of the Nogai Horde. Edigu makes an appearance in Harbinger of Destruction and Vytautas' Crusade, betraying Tokhtamysh in the former and fighting against him in the latter.
- Despite being modified as a Keshik, Tokhtamysh will not generate gold when attacking units.
- Tokhtamysh is also mentioned as the leader of the Golden Horde in the Hold Against the Horde scenario of the The Rise of Moscow campaign in Age of Empires IV, but does not appear himself as a unit in-game.
