This article is about the technology in Age of Empires. For the technology in Age of Empires II, see Theocracy (Age of Empires II).

Theocracy is a technology in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Return of Rome for Age of Empires. It can be researched at the Temple once the Iron Age is reached. Once researched, whenever a group of Priests convert a target together, only one of the Priests needs to recharge instead of all of them.

Theocracy is a critical technology to research if groups of Priests are regularly used for conversion. In conjunction with Astrology and Fanaticism, a group of Priests can become a dangerous threat if used wisely. The mechanics behind conversions mean that a group of Priests is more likely to convert a unit in a lower time.
