The Tycoon is an Industrial Age politician in Age of Empires III, available to the British, Dutch, French, Germans, Ottomans and Portuguese. As soon as the player advances to the Industrial Age by choosing him, 1,000 coin appears in the Home City shipment point.
The Tycoon is also available to the United States in the Act III: Steel campaign, where choosing him causes a Factory Wagon to appear in the Home City shipment point instead.
Before the Definitive Edition, The Tycoon is available to the Ottomans and Portuguese at a level 10 Home City, and the French at a level 40 Home City.
Strategy[]
The coin chests provided can help for several strategies; most prominently, mercenary/outlaw strategies, Fast Imperial Age or Fast Revolution. Since he provides coin, The Tycoon is an excellent bridge politician that makes good synergies with most other politicians from the Imperial Age or past ages.
If going for a Mercenary strategy, The Tycoon is the best pick for the civilizations that have access to him, being a great follow-up politician for The Mercenary Contractor in the Fortress Age, and can be also followed up with the Imperial Age Mercenary Contractor if the civilization has all three politicians available.
If going for a Fast Imperial Age or a Fast Revolution, the coin crates are quite helpful, saving gathering time. This is more noticeable if going for a Fast Revolution, as the player only has to gather 1,000 food and wood, which may also be shipped from the Home City.
The Tycoon has an Imperial Age counterpart with El Presidente, which also ships coin, and if the player picks both, they get 3,000 coin in total, which can pay the coin cost of two Imperial Age unit upgrades.
For the Ottomans, they get a better value from the coin crates if they shipped Silk Road.
Recommended shipments[]
All civilizations[]
- Crates of Food, Cords of wood and Chests of coin,: If going for a Fast Revolution the player will just need Cords of 1000 wood and Crates of 1000 food, If going for a Fast Imperial Strategy then pick Chests of Coin and Crates of food but may still require to gather these resources.
- Factory shipments.
- Advanced Estate: Ships 1 Estate Wagon; Estates get +100% hit points, -31% cost, and can be built in the Exploration Age. This may help to start accumulate coin early.
- Any economic upgrade.
- Mercenary or ally unit shipments: These requires coin for being shipped so The Tycoon coin may help to pay some of them.
- Capitalism (Germans and Ottomans): Gives a coin trickle
- South Sea Bubble (British and Dutch): Exchanges all coin for 1.25× the wood, this may help at late game if the wood is running low and may allow for a fast expansion and gettin map control or if playing on a naval map for creating more Warships.
- Mercenary Loyalty: Mercenary and native warrior shipments cost -25%
- Advanced Market: Markets get +20% buy/sell factors, useful if the player needs to exchange the coin for other resource.
- Native Warriors: Native warriors cost -25%. There are some native units that have a coin cost, like the ones from Royal Houses, so if playing on a map that has minor civilizations with units that cost coin, the 1,000 coin from The Tycoon may be used for training them.
Dutch[]
- Bank related shipments.
- Dutch Paintings: Exchanges all coin for equal amount of food.
- Flemish Revolution and Belgian Revolution: These shipments have a coin cost along costing wood and food so The Tycoon may cover the coin cost of these shipments at least.
French[]
- Fur Trade: Exchanges all food for 1.2× the coin.
Germans[]
- March Revolution: This shipment has the same cost of a regular revolution, so the player may use The Tycoon for covering the coin cost.
Ottomans[]
- Silk Road: Crates and Trade Routes contain +25% resources and XP.
Portuguese[]
- Feitorias: Town Centers generate 0.4 food, 0.24 wood, 0.24 coin/sec.
