The Sergeant at Arms is a Fortress Age politician in Age of Empires III, available to the Dutch, Germans, Maltese and Spanish. As soon as the player advances to the Fortress Age by choosing him, the following units appear in the Home City shipment point:
- Dutch – 6 Halberdiers
- Germans – 4 Doppelsoldners
- Maltese – 4 Hospitallers
- Spanish – 8 Pikemen
Strategy[]
The Sergeant at Arms is a politician that focuses on melee infantry. Each of the civilizations that have access to him gets a different set of infantry, so the player should check if they have some shipments in their deck that benefit these units. The Sergeant at Arms may also be preferred for mid-game defense, as most of these units can counter cavalry raids.
The Dutch may pick The Logistician in the Commerce Age and follow up with The Sergeant at Arms in order to amass a Halberdier army.
For the Maltese, The Sergeant at Arms can be followed up by The Papal Guard in the Industrial Age, since that politician reduces the cost of Guard Hospitallers. Similarly the Germans may follow up with The Papal Guard as it reduces the cost of Guard Dopplesoldners by 50%.

- Military Reforms: Halberdiers get +20% speed and -0.25 attack multiplier against infantry.
- Flemish Revolution: Turns all villagers into Halberdiers.
- Belgian Revolution: Turns all Pikemen, Halberdiers, and Ruyters into Revolutionaries.
- TEAM Infantry Hitpoints: Infantry get +10% hit points; Dutch-only infantry get +15% hit points instead.
- Infantry Combat: Pikemen, Halberdiers, Skirmishers, Revolutionary Sharpshooters, and Musketeers get +15% hit points and attack.
- Wanderlust (through South Africa revolution): Land units get +5% hit points; land villagers and wagons get +5% speed.
Germans[]
- Hand Infantry Attack: Pikemen and Doppelsoldners get +15% attack.
- Hand Infantry Hitpoints: Pikemen and Doppelsoldners get +15% hit points.
- Hand Infantry Combat: Pikemen and Doppelsoldners get +15% hit points and attack.
- Solingen Steel: Doppelsoldners get +50% hit points and attack, and -33% speed.
- Treaty of Westphalia: Provides the Church with Tilly's Discipline and Zweihänder technologies, both technologies improve Dopplesoldners.
Maltese[]
- Trip To Jerusalem: Returns 10 wood, 10 coin for each unit lost so far this game (up to 1,500 resources).
- TEAM Knights of the Round Table: Ships 1 Hospitaller for each Town Center owned by the player; increases all unit hit points by 2%.
- Knights of Bodrum: Ships 1 Hospitaller for each Outpost owned by the player.
- Knights of Rhodes: Ships 3 Hospitallers for each Commandery owned by the player.
- Sovereign Order of Malta: Sentinels, Hospitallers and Fire Throwers get +15% hit points and attack.
- Dignitaries: Hospitallers get +20% ranged resistance, +4 Line of Sight, and now use a charged 'Pistol Attack' with a range of 14.
- Knights of Malta: Ships 5 Hospitallers for each Fort owned by the player.
- Papal Bull: Provides the Church with Teutonic Knights, Crusader Knights and Knights of the Hospital technologies. All of them improve Hospitallers.
- Hospitality: The next Age up researches twice as fast and Hospital upgrades cost 150 wood, 150 coin less.
- Squires: Military buildings train and research work rate +80%, except Forts which get train and research work rate +260%

- TEAM Hidalgos: Pikeman train time -40%
- Tercio Tactics: Turns all Pikemen into Rodeleros.
- TEAM Hand Infantry Attack: Hand infantry get +15% attack.
- Archaic Infantry Hitpoints: Hand infantry and foot archers get +15% hit points; Rodeleros get +20% hit points instead.
- Archaic Infantry Combat: Hand infantry and foot archers get +15% hit points and attack.
- Liberation March: Infantry, cavalry, and shock infantry get +5% speed and -35% train time.
- TEAM Spanish Inquisition: Ships 1 Inquisitor; all units get +10 Line of Sight.
- House of Trastamára: The next Age up is researched 8.5% faster and costs 80 resources less for each shipment that has been sent in the current Age including this one; Resources are proportional to amount required.
- Reconquista: Ships 1 Conquistador for every 3 archaic infantry units lost (up to 10)
