This article is about the politician in Age of Empires III. For other uses, see Scout.

The Scout is a Fortress Age politician in Age of Empires III, available to the Ottomans, Russians, and Spanish. As soon as the player advances to the Fortress Age by choosing him, the following units appear in the Home City shipment point:

Before the Definitive Edition, The Scout is available to the Spanish at a level 10 Home City and the French and Ottomans at a level 60 Home City.

Strategy[]

If the player intends a cavalry strategy with the Russians, Ottomans, or Spanish, The Scout should be the politician of choice when advancing to Fortress Age. The units provided are melee cavalry in all cases; however, for the Russians, The Scout may be a bit more valuable, as they get Cossacks instead of Hussars. The player should have shipments that improve Hussars, Delis or Cossacks in their deck.

All three civilizations can follow up their cavalry strategy for advancing to the Industrial Age by picking The Cavalry Marshal, The Grand Vizier (for the Ottomans), or The War Minister (for the Russians). There are no politicians in the Imperial Age that further improve a cavalry strategy, but all the civilizations that have access to The Scout may instead prefer to revolt, since each one has some Revolution options that improve cavalry in several ways. The Spanish get Chile as an option, which turns all Hussars into Hussars of Death, so if the Spanish are intending to revolt into Chile, the Hussars provided by The Scout will add power to that strategy.
