The Rise of Rome

Campaign artwork

โ€œ Rome. The very name conjures images of steely-eyed legionaries and opulent senators. But Rome was not built in a day. Journey back to when Rome was nothing but a modest town on the Tiber River. Follow the Romans as they overthrow their Etruscan masters, conquer Italy, and expand throughout the Mediterranean to challenge Carthage and Greece. Divide and conquer, Consul. โ€
—In-game campaign description

The Rise of Rome (named just Rise of Rome before the Definitive Edition) is the first campaign of Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome, and deals with the struggles and hardships in the Roman Republic (509 BC - 27 BC), against some of its most formidable enemies, such as Mithridates of Pontus and Hannibal.

Scenarios[]

With the launch of the Definitive Edition, the campaign now consists of the following scenarios:

  1. The Birth of Rome (named Birth of Rome in the original)
  2. Pyrrhus of Epirus
  3. The Siege of Syracuse (named Syracuse in the original)
  4. The Battle of the Metaurus (Metaurus in the original)
  5. The Battle of Zama (Zama in the original)
  6. Mithridates

Trivia[]

  • The campaign artwork depicts the twins Romulus and Remus with the she-wolf that suckled them, and who form the legend of the foundation of Rome and the first Roman kingdom by Romulus.
