The Medici is a Commerce Age politician in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - Knights of the Mediterranean, available only for the Italians. When the player advances to the Commerce Age by choosing him, one Settler (two if the Advanced Politicians Home City Card has been sent) and one Lombard Wagon appear in the Home City shipment point.
Strategy[]
Italians are the only European civilization that lack The Naturalist as a Commerce Age option, so they instead have The Medici. The Medici allows for a booming strategy, as the Settlers can accelerate the economy, while the Lombard helps to balance the resources, while at the same time acting as a replacement of the Tavern. If the player has enough coin, they may pick the Medici in order to spam some outlaws and mercenaries. If picking The Medici, the player should consider using Commerce Age shipments for the Lombards (like Monte de Pietร ) in order to accelerate their economy.
If the player intends to perform a mercenary or outlaw strategy, they should always pick The Medici, then follow with The Mercenary Contractor in the Fortress Age, The Pope in the Industrial Age (for getting a Factory fast) and The Mercenary Contractor in the Imperial Age. The Medici is also the best start for the Italians if the player intends to revolt with either Argentina or Barbary States.
