โ€œ Ages up very fast. โ€
—In-game description

The Exiled Prince is a Fortress Age politician in Age of Empires III, available to all European civilizations except the British, Italians, Maltese and Spanish. Choosing him to advance to the Fortress Age speeds up the process by 2.33 times (The Exiled Prince takes 45 seconds to research).

Before the Definitive Edition, The Exiled Prince is available to the French and Ottomans at a level 30 Home City, the Russians at a level 50 Home City, and the Germans at a level 60 Home City.

Strategy[]

Its fast advance speed may allow for a Fast Fortress or Fast Industrial strategy. In that regard, it is better to pick The Naturalist or The Philosopher Prince in the Commerce Age in order to boom the economy, and then use The Exiled Prince for skipping the Fortress Age. Players may have a deck with early shipments of Chests of Coin and Crates of Food in order to accumulate both resources fast enough for aging up to the Industrial Age, particularly Crates of 1,000 food and Chests of 1,000 coin. The Ottomans do not have Crates of 1,000 Food, so they should send Silk Road first and then all their Crate and Chest shipments. Players may also send the 1 Covered Wagon shipment once they click on aging up to the Industrial Age in order to keep the economy running.

The fast Industrial strategy usually works much better with The Philosopher Prince used in a combo with the Exiled Prince rather than picking The Naturalist. Most of the time players may follow up with military-oriented politicians like The Cavalry Marshal, The Grand Vizier, The War Minister, or The King's Musketeer, as their unit shipments in the Industrial Age are more than enough for performing a raid against an opponent. If the player does not intend to stay in the Industrial Age for long, they should choose The Tycoon or The Viceroy and try a Fast Imperial/Fast Revolution. However, this may leave the player with a weak defense, as the advantage of The Exiled Prince ends when the opponents reach the Industrial Age.

Another possibility with the Exiled Prince is to use the time advantage window for performing a rush directly in the Fortress Age, as it will be very likely that the player will be an age ahead of their opponents, if the player properly performed their Fast Fortress strategy; and for this, it is recommended to use a deck with good Fortress Age military unit shipments.
