The Engineer is a Industrial Age politician in Age of Empires III, available to all European civilizations except the Dutch. As soon as the player advances to the Industrial Age by choosing him, two Falconets (Organ Guns for the Portuguese and 3 Falconets for the Italians if the Advanced Politicians Home City Card was sent) appear in the Home City shipment point.

Before the Definitive Edition, The Engineer is available to the Germans at a level 30 Home City, the Spanish at a level 50 Home City, and the British at a level 60 Home City.

Strategy[]

For players that focus on artillery units, The Engineer is the politician of choice in the Industrial Age. Falconets and Organ Guns (like most artillery units in Age of Empires III) are quite expensive, so getting two of them just for advancing age can complement almost any strategy. Having a deck that furthers improves the stats of Falconets should be considered when picking The Engineer.

For the Swedes, The Engineer may be used in combination with The Marksman if the player is pushing artillery, as The Marksman ships Leather Cannons for them. A good follow-up politician in the Imperial Age is The General if the player keeps pushing artillery units.

  • Advanced Artillery: Ships 1 Mortar; Mortars and Horse Artillery can be trained in the Fortress Age.
  • Advanced Arsenal (all except Italians and Swedes).
  • Engineering School (French, Ottomans, Portuguese, Russians and Swedes): Artillery train time -30%.
  • Factory shipments.
  • Infantry or Cavalry shipments for protecting the artillery
  • Artillery unit shipments.

Italians[]

  • Guardia di Finanza: Adds coin equal to 5% of the cost of all defeated enemy units to the player's stockpile up to a maximum of 3,000 coin.
  • Advanced Politicians.
  • Milanese Arsenal.
  • Venetian Arsenal: Ships 1 Arsenal Wagon; Arsenals now increase the work rate of nearby military buildings and Docks by 60%.

Maltese[]

  • Flame Throwers: Ships 1 Artillery Foundry Wagon; Fire Throwers get the 'Flamethrower' charged action which deals burning damage in close range.

Ottomans[]

  • Topรงular: Artillery get +15% hit points and attack.
  • Palace Intrigue: Provides the Mosque with Topรงu Corps technology which ships 3 Great Bombards, Great Bombards take -1 population.
  • Derbentler: Janissaries and Azaps can build Barracks, Stables, and Artillery Foundries.

Portuguese[]

  • Artillery Hitpoints: Grenade troopers get +30% hit points; artillery get +15% hit points.
  • Grapeshot: Organ Guns get -0.5 Rate of Fire and +0.5 Area of Effect; removes Organ Gun packing animation.
  • Estremoz Field Guns: Upgrades Falconets to Field Guns and ships an increasing amount of Field Guns per Age: 1 Field Gun in the Fortress Age; 2 Field Guns in the Industrial Age; 2 Field Guns in the Imperial Age.
  • Rangefinding: Mortars get +8 Line of Sight and Cannon attack range, and +3 Barrage attack range.

Russians[]

  • Tsar Cannon: Ships 1 Tsar Cannon and upgrades it to Imperial; Imperial upgrades for Falconets, Culverins, Mortars, and Horse Artillery cost -10%.

Spanish[]

  • Unction: Missionaries increase the attack of nearby friendly units.
  • TEAM Spanish Inquisition: Ships 1 Inquisitor; all units get +10 Line of Sight.
  • House of Trastamรกra: The next Age up is researched 8.5% faster and costs 80 resources less for each shipment that has been sent in the current Age including this one; Resources are proportional to amount required.

Swedes[]

  • Julita Styckebruk: Ships 1 Leather Cannon and 1 Artillery Foundry Wagon.
  • Case Shot: Leather Cannons, Falconets, Culverins, Horse Artillery and Heavy Cannons get the Case Shot attack (used against enemies within half of the normal range or closer, which deals 10% of the normal damage with 7 projectiles and +2 Area of Effect, but with ร—0.5 against cavalry and shock infantry, and also ร—2.0 against infantry for Culverins).
  • Cronstedt Reforms: Leather Cannons, Falconets, and Heavy Cannons take -1 population.
  • Barrage: Mortars get the Barrage attack (used against enemies at 4-30 range, dealing 40 damage with 7 Area of Effect, ร—0.5 against cavalry and shock infantry, and ร—0.1 against artillery and Arrow Knight).
