The Boneguard's Lair is the third scenario of the Act III: Steel campaign in Age of Empires III. It involves Beaumont trapping Amelia and the introduction of old Ká:nien.
Summary[]
After defending the American fort from the Mexicans, Amelia accompanies Beaumont to the place where he indicated in the middle of the Rockies mountains, but nothing is as it seems...
Objectives[]
Primary objectives[]
- Find Beaumont.
- Drive Beaumont and his men out of the mines.
- Find and collect the Seminole map.
Secondary objective[]
- Destroy all the Weapons Cache. (500 XP)
Players[]
Player[]
- Amelia Black (
United States) - Their starting units consist of Amelia Black, Major Cooper, Ká:nien, and nine Musketeers. Ká:nien will stay outside the mines looking for help in the nearby native villages, while Amelia, Cooper, and their men go into the mines in search of Beaumont and his Boneguards.
Allies[]
- Native Americans (Native Americans) - They control the native neutral villages outside the mines. They will exchange food wagons for different units: the westernmost village will send four Cree Trackers, the centermost village will send five Nookta Clubmen, and the easternmost village will send two Healers, for each wagon.
Enemy[]

Strategy[]
The player starts the scenario with few troops and at a numerical disadvantage, so they will need to take care of them while adding troops to the army, freeing the prisoners. Ká:nien will ask for Food Wagons, which are found throughout the mines. The player must defend them until they leave the mines and be sent to one of the Native villages so that they can provide the player with troops. One of the rescued prisoners is a Medicine Man, which the player can use to heal the troops. At the end of the mines, the player must defeat the Boneguard troops while avoiding losing many units (on Hard, the player has to finish off the Falconets before losing too many troops). After this, collect the Seminole map (the treasure on the left northeast of the map) and then exit the mines to the north to complete the scenario.
Trivia[]
- This scenario is the first time the player sees old Ká:nien in Act III: Steel.
- Amelia mentions that it is the first time in five years that she has seen Ká:nien, since Nathaniel's funeral (which in the epilogue of Act I: Fire we know was in 1812), which would make this scenario and campaign set in 1817.
