| —Age of Empires IV description | ||
The Teutonic Knight is a unique heavy melee infantry unit of the Knights Templar in Age of Empires IV: Knights of Cross and Rose. It is unlocked after selecting the Teutonic Order as the Commanderie ally in the Imperial Age.
Ability[]
Battle Glory (Passive): The Teutonic Knight permanently gains 5 health and 1 damage for each enemy unit it kills. There is no upper limit on how high these values can get.
Teutonic Wrath: (Passive): The melee and ranged armor of all enemy units with a 3 tile radius is reduced by -2. The ability does not stack.
Unit comparison[]
The following table compares all heavy infantry options available to the Knights Templar (except for the Early Man-at-Arms, which is included simply as a reference). The table displays base stats, that is, Commanderie Age-up bonuses are not included, even for units that inherently benefit from them.

Tactics[]
The Teutonic Knight is a stronger alternative to the Man-at-Arms, and can serve as an excellent frontline damage tank in an army. With damage and hit points nearly on par with heavy cavalry, they can withstand an incredible amount of punishment before being killed. The advantages come with costing 50% more resources than Men-at-Arms, as well as a much higher gold cost. Their lower speed also makes them even more vulnerable to ranged units. Crossbowmen and Handcannoneers can easily hit-and-run without the Teutonic Knight being able to catch up. As such, pairing Teutonic Knights with Horsemen, Genitours, or Mangonels is recommended to deal with their counters. Archers can also be effective, especially when combined with the Teutonic Wrath ability reducing the armor of enemy units, allowing the Archers to deal more damage.
The Battle Glory ability can make Teutonic Knights even more dangerous after taking several fights, as with each enemy killed, their health and damage increases. This synergizes well with Hospitaller Knights, which can heal the Teutonic Knights in between battles and make them more likely to rack up larger amounts of kills.

Changelog[]
- With the Season Twelve Update, the movement speed of the Teutonic Knight was increased from 0.9 tiles/second to 0.975 tiles/second.
Campaign unit[]
The Teutonic Knight is a recurring non-playable heavy melee infantry unit exclusive to the The Sultans Ascend campaign in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend. It appears in several scenarios in the armies of enemy Frankish crusaders and is often accompanied by a Teutonic Grand Master.
Description[]
The Teutonic Knight is a very strong variant of the Man-at-Arms, surpassing every other variant in hit points, armor, and damage, with the exception of the Gilded Man-at-Arms, which has more hit points. Its stats are further boosted by various technologies in different scenarios. With up to 14 pierce and melee armor in its fully-upgraded state, it can only be engaged with large amounts of Crossbowmen or siege engines, or outnumbered with other heavy units such as Lancers.
Campaign appearances[]
- Teutonic Knights first appear as part of the elite Headquarters guard in The Battle of Mansurah, but will abandon their posts if their Grand Master is killed.
- Teutonic Knights form the right flank of the third attacking wave in The Battle of Ayn Jalut.
- Groups of Teutonic Knights guard the inner part of the city of Acre in The Siege of Acre and will attack the player once the walls have been breached.

Trivia[]
- Based on the editor, the campaign Teutonic Knight technically has access to the Setup Camp ability formerly available to Men-at-Arms. However, this is never used.
- The Teutonic Knight has more damage and range for its torch attack.
