Strategy[]
For players that prefer light infantry and good defenses, Tennessee is a great pick in the Fortress Age if playing with the United States. Tennessee ships four Sharpshooters, which is one the United States unique Skirmishers with better range. Watauga Association allows the player to easily muster State Militias, which are the second type of Skirmisher the United States has access to. Tennessee is a good follow-up for federal states such as Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, as each of them has some infantry or defensive-focused federal cards. Tennessee also offers Overmountain Settlers, which may enable a booming strategy, and this also makes Tennessee a good option if the player picked Massachusetts in the Commerce Age. Most federal states in the Industrial Age have something to offer for infantry, defenses or economy, so Tennessee may be a good complement for many strategies. However, South Carolina may be the best pick, as hte Moultries Militia federal card improves State Militias. The best Imperial Age federal States picks if the player selects Tennessee are Texas and Illinois.
The Overmountain Settlers card is key for defense and economy. This federal card allows all kinds of villagers the player has to better exploit natural resources. while they are also able to protect themselves better against raids. This shipment also allows villagers to fight better against Treasure guardians, so Overmountain Settlers is also valuable for getting treasures.
Watauga Association enables the player to gain and retain map control and may also enable the player to perform an attack with State Militia at the same time. Each Outpost new or already built spams two State Militia, which adds more support for defending a location. The player must not disregard the Levy/Conscription special ability of the United States in this, as each United States Outpost can call Militia. Unlike with other civilizations, this ability can recharge with a global cooldown.
