Specific[]
Ascetic Practices: Upgrades Tengus to Tengu Masters; Tengus have +5 Line of Sight and Martial Strike jump range, +50% damage boost, and -15% hack and pierce vulnerabilities boost from Martial Strike.
Tengus are fast myth units who leap into battle, gaining increased attack and armor upon landing. This allows them to strike first and even bypass obstructions such as walls, making them useful against turtling players. They can also make short work of enemy siege weapons and myth units, especially slow-moving ones, like Mountain Giants. The Ascetic Practices technology upgrades Tengus to Tengu Masters, with greater Line of Sight and an improved Martial Strike ability, with higher damage and armor boosts upon landing.
In combat, Tengus are strong against ranged soldiers, especially considering the pierce armor boost from Martial Strike. They are also useful against other myth units. The Martial Strike ability can even be used to disrupt an enemy's economy by leaping onto unsuspecting workers gathering resources far from their base. As with all other myth units, heroes are the Tengus' greatest weakness. However, Tengus are fast enough that they can outrun most threats and retreat to safety, where they can be healed by a Miko or Onmyōji.
At release, Tengu had 16 hack attack. With update 18.50572, this was increased to 20 hack.

Mythology[]
“
Scientific name – Viravis ruber Size – 150 lbs Diet – fruit, grains, and sake
The Tengu is a bird-like humanoid creature with red skin and wings. These beings dwell deep in the mountains of Japan and have long been associated with peculiar occurrences, such as unexpected falling rocks and mysterious laughter echoing in the distance. Tengus sometimes deliberately confuse travelers, causing them to lose their way.
However, if a Tengu deems a human worthy, they may impart valuable skills, the most notable being swordsmanship. Tengu are renowned swordsmen, and many myths tell of them training legendary figures in Japanese folklore. They are also proficient in magic and, on occasion, may share their mystical knowledge with humans.
