The Masterless Sword is a special myth unit which is spawned upon the death of a Samurai once Ten-Fist Sword is researched. It is a floating magical sword which cannot be targeted by enemies or be damaged in any way, but lingers only for a while. It pursues any enemy which enters within range 12 of its spawn location, and tries to attack them. If they move too far away, it returns. After it lands a successful strike, or on the expiry of its lifespan of 10 seconds, it vanishes.
It can be affected by Frost, Chaos, and stuns from Shockwave or Li Jing's ability. It is affected by some knockback effects such as from Meteor but not from others like Kusanagi.

The Ten-Fist Sword, or Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, is a legendary weapon used by various kami in Japanese mythology, including Izanagi, Amaterasu, and Susanoo. The name "Ten-Fist" refers to the sword's length, roughly equivalent to ten hand spans.

Trivia[]
The Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, which the technology references, is also the sword which was used by the god Susanoo to slay the dragon Yamata no Orochi, a feat which he is incorrectly depicted in his artwork as accomplishing with the sword Kusanagi instead.
If the Samurai is removed from the game world rather than killed, such as through the abilities of the Carnivora, Lampades, or Taotie, or through god powers like Curse or Spider Lair, the Masterless Sword is not spawned.
