Tawara is a unique technology in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend available at the Farmhouse to the Japanese and Sengoku Daimyo starting in the Dark Age. It and its subsequent upgrades replace Wheelbarrow and the standard Horticulture food gather upgrade line. It increases the carry capacity of Villagers by +3, their movement speed by +7%, and grants +25% gather rate from Berry Bushes.

- Tawara (俵) is Japanese for "straw bag" or "sack", such as the kome-dawara (米俵) or "rice bags" that were used to transport rice in medieval Japan. When the Japanese were first released, the name of this technology was misspelt as Towara. This was eventually corrected in a later update.[When?]
