Tanegashima Tate is a unique technology released with Age of Empires IV: Dynasties of the East. It is available to the Sengoku Daimyo at the Oda Clan Daimyo Estate beginning in the Castle Age, but can only be researched once two Oda Clan Daimyo Estates have been built. After researching, Tanegashima Ashigaru gain the Tanegashima Tate ability.
Tanegashima Tate (Passive): After remaining stationary for three seconds, the unit will automatically deploy a standing shield that increases their weapon range by +2 tiles and their ranged armor by +2. Once activated, the ability will persist if moving very short distances, but if moving farther away, it will automatically deactivate and the shield will disappear. After the ability deactivates, it has a 15 second cooldown before it can be activated again.
