Tamaulipas is an Industrial Age Federal State in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, available to the Mexicans. As soon as the player advances to the Industrial Age by choosing Tamaulipas, two Sloops appear at the Home City shipment point and the following Home City Cards will be added into the Mexican player's deck:

Strategy[]
When playing on a naval map or a map where naval combat is important, Tamaulipas is the federal state Mexicans should pick in the Industrial Age. Tamaulipas should be picked after Sinaloa and Michoacรกn in most cases, but sometimes this federal state may also be a good follow-up for Querรฉtaro, as Arteaga Reforms will make Tamaulipas ship four Sloops instead of two (which allows the player to surpass the creation limit of the Sloop by 4), and the Queretaro Haciendas shipment allows the player to save wood from Houses for more ships. The Pรกnuco Waterway federal card makes this federal state a bit flexible, especially if the player has a deck that requires the use of a lot of resource-only shipments.
Tamaulipas may be also a good follow-up for Durango in case the player has a deck with focus on outlaws and mercenaries, but uses coin and wood shipments from the Home city for accumulating the coin required to train them. Durango's Cerro de Mercado exchanges all wood for 1.5ร the coin, so the player may place wood cards in the base deck that will not use shipments after Pรกnuco Waterway is shipped and then exchange the wood for coin.
None of the Imperial Age federal States have a naval focus, but each one of them may offer something useful on a naval map. Oaxaca and Jalisco gives a good amount of wood for warships. Oaxaca also provides Zapotec Valley, which enables the Zapotec Cloud People technology at the Native Embassy, which ships 100 wood for every 2 minutes of the game time (up to 30 minutes). Estado de Mรฉxico has National Servant, which gives all units (including ships) +10% hit points (Pรกnuco Waterway may also help to save shipments for the Army of the Three Guarantees). Veracruz and Puebla ship 1 Fort Wagon each and increases their creation limit, which may aid for protecting the shore against a landing. For revolutions, both Texas and California have some naval-related shipments, but Texas should be the preferred option in many circumstances, as California has San Diego Port, which is just simply Tampico Customs renamed, so Tamaulipas' value is reduced to just giving Sloops and the Pรกnuco Waterway if picking California.
Recommended shipments[]
- Resource only shipments, especially the infinite ones, the larger ones and TEAM Piรฑatas: Pรกnuco Waterway makes all of them experience-free, so those can be shipped when the player has not accumulated experience for other shipments in the spare times of the Home city.
- Advanced Dock: Docks get +100% attack and repair ships twice as fast; Ship train time -33%
- TEAM Rendering Plant and Fish Market: Fishing Ships work faster.
- Schooners: Fishing Boats cost -20 wood and train time -30%
- Sawmills and Exotic Hardwods: The player will need wood for the navy. For Tamaulipas, these may be optional, as Pรกnuco Waterway may provide wood long term without needing to cut down trees.
- 3 Trading Post Wagons and Advanced Trading Post: Getting experience fast synergizes with Pรกnuco Waterway, as the shipments will be used on every shipment that is not an only resource card.
- 1 Whale: Ships 1 Humpback Whale.
- TEAM Gulf of Mexico: Reveals the location of enemy ships, fishes, and whales; Ships 1 Dock Wagon.
- TEAM Coastal Defenses: Defensive buildings get +0.8ร multiplier against ships.
- Improved Warships: Warships, including Privateers, get +25% hit points and attack.
- European Cannons: Warships, including Privateers, get +15% attack, +2 Line of Sight, and +2 range.
- Admiralty: Armor Plating, Carronade, Percussion Lock, Ship's Howitzers, and Imperial Men-o'-War cost and research time -60%
- Warship shipments especially Recruit Privateers (Sinaloa): The player may need to increase the navy by shipping more Warships. Texas and California revolutions have some Warship shipments, and those can also be obtained from the base deck. If the player picked Sinaloa previously their Privateers will not count against the creation limit of other ships available to the Mexicans.
- San Francisco Bay (California): Ships 2 Sloops; Sloops get the Hide ability.
- National Servant (Estado de Mรฉxico): All units, including Warships, gain +10% hit points.
- Colegio de San Nicolรกs (Michoacรกn): Ships 500 XP; Units (including warships) and buildings get +8 Line of Sight; Sees what enemies can see for 20 seconds.
- Michoacรกn Fisherman (Michoacรกn): Ships 2 Dock Wagons; Ships 1 Fishing Boat for every Home City shipment that had been sent before this one.
- Arteaga Reforms (Queretaro): The next Federal State ships twice as much units/resources. If used with Tamaulipas, the player will get 4 Sloops.
- Cerro de Mercado (Durango): Useful after Panuco Waterway was sent and after accumulating wood for converting it into coin.
