Tabasco is a Fortress Age Federal State in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, available to the Mexicans. As soon as the player advances to the Fortress Age by choosing Tabasco, 500 coin appears at the Home City shipment point and the following Home City Cards will be added into the Mexican player's deck:

Blue: Shipments that arrive fast
Card Description
Federal card tabascan separatists Tabascan Separatists Upgrades Salteadores to Veteran (if not already); Ships 1 Salteador for every Home City shipment before this one
Federal card tabasco fruits Tabasco Fruits For the next 60 seconds, villagers gather from Haciendas 250% faster

Strategy[]

For players that like to ambush an opponent with a Skirmisher unit, Tabasco is the Fortress Age option Mexicans should pick. Tabasco also offers some economic advantage thanks to the 500 coin they get by aging up, and the Tabasco Fruits federal card. Like with San Luis Potosí, the 500 coin may be used for training more units, or for researching a Veteran upgrade - in this case, the Veteran Salteador.

The Tabasco Fruits shipment is a federal Card, and its effect is temporary, so the player must decide when to use it in order to get the most resources possible. They should have at least 3 Haciendas with 20 Villagers working on each in order to get a good return of food or coin (or if revolting to Yucatán and with Solis Shredders wood). Tabasco Fruits may also be useful before revolting, as the player may save the surplus of resources for rebooming after all Settlers are turned into military units.

Tabascan Separatists allows the player to get a good army of Salteadores. It is recommended that the player already used at least 7 shiments before, so they get sizable army of Salteadores. The player may then ambush smaller armies of infantry.

Tabasco is a Federal State that synergizes with Yucatan Revolution, as the focus of Yucatan is on Insurgentes and Salteadores, so if the player chooses to either revolt to Yucatan and revert to Mexico or go for Maya revolution, they should pick Tabasco first. They are a moderately good follow-up federal state for almost all Commerce Age Federal states except Michoacán.

Recommended shipments[]

  • Land Grab, 1 Hacienda Wagon, Alhondiga de Granaditas, TEAM Alta California Territory, Infinite 2 Hacienda Wagons (Rio Grande, Texas, California), California Haciendas (California), Fortified Haciendas (Yucatán, Durango, Texas and California): All shipments that allow cheaper Haciendas, increase their build limit, or give Hacienda Wagons. May help for a better Hacienda boom with Tabasco Fruits.
  • Observers: Salteadores get +2 range and Line of Sight, +5% speed, and see the Line of Sight of enemies they attacked for 10 seconds. Can be sent via the base deck or through the Yucatán revolution.
  • Ambuscade: Salteadores gain increased hit points for each natural resource in an AOE of 5 around them. Can be sent via the base deck or through the Yucatán or Maya revolutions.
  • Guerrilla Tactics: Salteadores get +15% hit points and attack, and the Guerrilla Tactics ability. Can be sent via the base deck or through the Yucatán revolution.
  • Plan of Tuxtepec: Turns all Salteadores into Soldados; Musket Infantry get +1 Line of Sight and range.
  • Plan of Miramare: Turns all Salteadores into Voltigeur Skirmishers; Rifle Infantry get +2 Line of Sight and range.
  • Liberation March: Infantry including Salteadores get +5% speed and -35% train time. Can be sent via the base deck or through the Rio Grande, Texas or California revolutions.
  • Mexican Mint, Sustainable Agriculture, Refrigeration, Jalapeno Peppers, Habanero Peppers, Rum Distillery, Cigar Roller, Textile Mill, Food Silos (Yucatán and Maya), Yucatecan (Yucatán), Zapotec Valley (Oaxaca; this allows Zapotec Food of the Gods), Tonalá Ceramics (Jalisco), Maya Ceramics (Maya): The Tabasco Fruits temporary effect stacks with any improvement to coin or food generation at the Hacienda and other temporary effects that benefit the Hacienda.
  • Rancheros and Charreada: The Tabasco Fruits villager working rate at Haciendas also works with the Chinacos and Cuatreros produced at Haciendas, so it may allow for a fast spam of these cavalry.
  • Solís Shredders (Yucatán): Haciendas can be toggled to allow villagers to gather wood from them. The Tabasco Fruits effect applies to this.
  • Jungle Warfare (Yucatan and Maya): Salteadores poison the enemy when attacking.
  • Pok Ta Pok (Maya): Infantry get +10% speed and -10% train time. Applies to the Salteadores (or Cruzob Avengers).
  • Chan Santa Cruz (Maya): Cruzob Avengers can be upgraded to Imperial.
  • National Servant (Estado de México): All units gain +10% hit points.
  • Cinco de Mayo (Puebla): Forts increase the hit points and attack of friendly infantry and cavalry in an AOE of 26 around them by 25%.
