| “ | Heavy defensive gate. Must be built on a Stone Wall segment. Infantry can use the gate to access the top of the walls. | ” |
| —Age of Empires IV description | ||
The Stone Wall Gate is a defensive structure in Age of Empires IV available starting in the Feudal Age. It provides friendly units a path to pass through Stone Walls while keeping enemies out. Friendly foot units can also use the gate to get on top of Stone Walls.
Gameplay mechanics[]
Stone Wall Gates can either be built on top of Stone Walls or, at any time before a Stone Wall segment is complete, its blueprint can be converted into a Stone Wall Gate for 30 stone (if a gate could normally be placed there). Stone Wall Gates cannot be targeted by most units that use ranged or torch attacks. They are vulnerable only to siege attacks from siege engines and elephants. When a Stone Wall Gate is destroyed, the two adjacent segments of Stone Wall will also be destroyed.
Because Stone Wall Gates are part of walls, which normally do not interact with influence, they are not affected by most influence bonuses that may affect other buildings within the area. The only exception to this is the Fortress influence of the Knights Templar.

Changelog[]
- Originally, the Rus could not build Stone Wall Gates at all. With the Season Two Update 17718, the Spaskaya Tower Landmark now unlocks the building of Stone Wall Gates.
- With the Season Two Update, Stone Wall Gates under construction can now be attacked by all units.
- Originally, Stone buildings cost wood to repair. With the Season Two Update, they cost Stone to repair.
- Originally, Stone Wall Gates could be built in two different orientations, with the gate facing in or out. The orientation determined the direction from which units could climb on top of stone walls, meaning that if the Gate was built incorrectly facing in, enemy units could climb on top of Walls. With the Wall rework in update 9.1.176, this feature was removed and only allied units can climb on Walls from either direction, regardless of Gate orientation.
- With update 10.0.576, the ability to convert a Stone Wall blueprint into a Gate was added.
- With patch 11.1.1201, Stone Wall Gates now benefit from the Extra Materials aura.
Campaign version[]
Because the original four campaigns have not been rebalanced since the release of the game, the Stone Wall Gates within them differ from their standard version in the following ways:
- They can be attacked by units wielding torches.
- They have only 2,500 hit points, but 30 fire armor.
